BoardCAD to Fusion360

Good afternoon all,

Hope to find you well.

I’ve been working on a project in which I need to transfer a 3D surfboard design made in BoardCAD into Fusion 360 so I can further edit its volume.

I’ve tried to export in different formats but nothing seems to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Anonymous 

Thanks for posting. If it is 2d curves, then .dwg will do it well. If it has surfaces, then use .step format.

I was wondering if it was possible to upload a 3D version of the board.

I've just tried to export in STEP but Fusion doesn't read it for some reason.

So, when I try to save it as .dwg it becomes a .brd for some reason. When I
try to open it on fusion, comes up with a page error (as attached). 😅

Good afternoon,

Thanks for your attention and your help.

So, I've been working in some sketches and was trying to use the tool Sweep or Loft in order to get a solid (surfboard) out of these plans. All the time this functions end up crashing - I believe this might be because the sketches were uploaded from polylines.

 Any idea on how to get around this?

This can be done but requires a few steps. Export your board out of BoardCAD as a STEP file. Then you will need to use an online tool to convert to an IGES file. The STEP file directly out of BoardCAD doesn't import into Fusion360. The online too is here. https://convert.emachineshop.com. 

Then import the file from the online tool into Fusion360. I had to then patch the unstitched bodies up and it worked. I plan on using Fusion360 for a Surfboard CNC machine but I design the board in BoardCAD.
