Autodesk Fusion will require an Apple-supported OS/Hardware configuration after our March 2025 update

Hi I see this message on my 2009 Mac pro 5.1. I know it's old device, it's modded heavily + Ventura installed and outperforms my m2 macbook pro in most tasks (fusion as well) so I have no intention to replace it in nearly future. Is this message mean that fusion will not support my spec so if anything will not work I will have to leave with that or I'll not be able to start Fusion 360 since March? I can live with first option, but I don't want to but new computer anytime soon 🙂

@sebastian_krystosik As of March 2025 you will not be able to update Fusion. If you uninstall Fusion at that point you cannot reinstall as it will be blocked. Support for such hardware is not available any longer right away. Hopefully that adds more clarity.

I wouldn't call this solution...

I've marked @RajkumarIlanchelian's answer as the solution.

Understandably you don't like the solution (I wouldn't either if I were in that situation) , but it is what it is and it is very unlikely to change 😉

Hi,

How about instead of blocking access to Fusion360 for the thousands (if not more) that cannot afford to be forced to buy new computers all the time, allow them to install and use the software, but in the case of unsupported hardware you could offer reduced or no support on these unsupported platforms (as in the way the name suggests... unsupported), then let any support unsupported platform support be handle it by the community and forums...

Would be a much more sensible option...

Stop being part of the industry that forces Designed Obsolescence... the world cannot afford it at the moment.

Just a suggestion.

@TheOriginalWattsie Its a lot more than allow access for Fusion on unsupported versions. The real trouble is that to build on the Mac we have to use tools that will not let us build for unsupported versions. This means even build/install and launch becomes an issue.

Ah okay, thanks for the reply.

I suppose if your development team are unable to work it out... wonder if the community could help you work out how to workaround your issue..

i.e., I wonder how all the other thousands of MacOS developers have no issues developing and releasing on unsupported other platforms, whereas your are experiencing this type of issue.

I for one have been trying to personally justify purchasing a license to get access to features that were removed from free version, but with this move, it will no longer allow me to even look at purchasing a license.

I will keep an eye out, and if no one is able to come up with a workaround to the blocks, my only option will be to move away from F360 and move to a competitor (which might be Autodesk's intention, but still a very low way kill it for all of us that cannot afford Designed Obsolescence)

BTW: I am on a MacPro2019 running Sequoia, and using F360 without any significant issues (apart from when I loose internet sometimes F360 doesn't recover and I have to kill the app, but I just make sure I save regularly)

Again, Thanks for the reply... just hope there is a workaround... I for one can only hope.

Same situation here. With hardware that exceeds the needs of the software but with this new news of lack of support and, I suppose, not being able to continue using this tool.

Absolute nonsense

You still need to use a device that meets your OS' minimum system requirements. Apple tends to drop devices because of lacking graphics support for newer OS APIs, and that's echoed in our crash reports - these sorts of configurations represent a disproportionate number of Mac graphics issues. These aren't devices we have internally nor can go to Apple for help, so our options for reproducing and addressing these highly-niche crash scenarios are limited.

Having said that, @TheOriginalWattsie a 2019 Mac Pro should support macOS 15. Are you seeing this warning? Can you please confirm for me with a screenshot that your device is listed under System Report as MacPro7,1?

Hi, Sorry, I must have mistyped, mine is actually a 2013 Mac Pro (Cylindrical Mac Pro), but when using OCLP I set to as follows:

Hardware Overview:

    Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro7,1  (modified by OCLP, original is 5,1)
Processor Name: 12-Core Intel Xeon E5
    Processor Speed: 2.7 GHz
    Number of Processors: 1
    Total Number of Cores: 12
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
    L3 Cache: 30 MB
    Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled
    Memory: 64 GB

It works perfectly, and I have had no issues with F360, nor any other app...

The only issues I have had are a faulty ram stick, and under hot weather and high cpu usage, I can sometimes get a lockup, but that is just a cooling issue, as I have since relocated into an A/C'd cupboard and it no longer has that issue on hot days.

I just hope you reconsider and provide community supported version, that can be downloaded and run on older Macs..

Those of us with older Mac's understand, simply do a popup or on the launch window, put a bold not that older version are not supported, but will operate.

Cheers.

I am running OpenCoreLegacyPatcher on a 2011 MacBook Pro convincing it to run Monterey even if High Sierra is the last supported one.
https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/
I guess i will make the step to Ventura if that is necessary.
But the question is, can we not get a baked locked version of Fusion or Eagle, that can be used on older machines ?
Maybe without any online functionality ?
Keeping up with a subscription is one thing, but keeping up with Apples restriction is a big ask.
i understand limitation will be needed, but that still would be better than not be able to use Fusion and pay the support.

I'm sorry to tell you that Ventura via OpenCore isn't going to work, either, assuming we detected it correctly. It used to be enough for us to just check the OS version for compatibility, but we've reached a point where we now have to factor in hardware compatibility, too. Even I have an old Macbook Air that is affected by this change, but it's over 10 years old - we simply aren't validating for graphics chipsets that old. Generally we have a policy of allowing unsupported configurations to run Fusion as long as possible, until it becomes problematic, and we've reached that threshold according to our internal crash reports.

Keep in mind that the version you have installed will keep working for some time - you simply won't be eligible for app updates. There will come a time when that installed version stops working because we've changed a server-side API or something, but that is generally at least 8 months out. After that point, unfortunately extended offline use is not an option - it doesn't exist in the version you have, and we have no plans to introduce it in newer releases, either.

Thanks for the update.

I cannot speak for others, but it makes me said autodesk will no longer support older platforms.

Current economic climate and the ridiculous pricing of HW at the moment makes it difficult to upgrade

I for one am super glad I did not purchase a license during the Xmas sales, and will now no longer be able to purchase a license.

I am currently honing my skills on other competitor software, as I for one need a tool to do edits and create..

Again thanks for all your help and support.

Cheers.

All right good to know..

I mean, on my design workstations i am running an M3 on Sequoia 15.3.1 (24D70)...that should be enough, right ? 🙂

The old geezer sits on the workbench where i do the soldering.

And from time to time i need to check my schematics as i am only human and make mistakes.

I used to use Eagle for that and i still prefer it to Fusion because i can have the two windows side by side.

It is a simple task i need to perform.

CLick a trace in the schematic and see it on the board file.

That's really it.

If i find a design mistake i got back to the proper computer..

If i find a wrong value i change it in google sheets.

So you're telling me i need to find a third party tool for that now ?
I even would BUY a locked viewer product if Autodesk had one.
I have 10 years of designs accumulated by now...i need to preserve access to them somehow.

Thanks for the clarification that the currently installed version wont self-destruct immediately. It would be nice if the update banner had a details pane that provided this info.

Mine immediately stopped working today.  I did not uninstall it or anything.  The icon is grayed out with the 'no' symbol over it.   I get this message when I try to open it - "You can't open the application because it may be damaged or incomplete".    *** EDIT:  This appears to have been due to a corrupted installation, as Lance answered below.  I do fully expect it to stop working for us sooner rather than later.  That's why I installed a script to expedite the backing up of all of my project files to my local machine.

It still makes me angry that Autodesk could easily come up with a legacy version for us to download and use, but NOPE - they don't seem to care about poor people.

Your installation has seemingly become corrupted somehow, but it's unrelated to blocking unsupported Mac configurations - that has not even released yet.

For anyone else hit with the "iMac14,2 does not officially support 15.2. Please use Apple-Supported OS/Hardware configuration to install and run Autodesk Fusion."

There is a workaround, as the software WILL still work on the hardware combo if it has in the past. There has been very little advancement in the actual software, they just dont want to support EOL hardware (which is fine, just don't block it installing!! just don't offer support. Some of us have an old machine and can't afford to upgrade, as we have other more pressing fees or don't have disposable income)

Step 1: Download the (latest) "Fusion Client Downloader.dmg" file from Fusion's site
Step 2: Mount the disk (douple click), close the window that appears, and then navigate in Finder in the left bar to the mounted drive
Step 3: Copy the "Install Autodesk Fusion" file somewhere, I.e. your desktop
Step 4: Right click, and select "Show package contents"
Step 5: Open "Contents/Resources/resources/precheck_config.json" and change "CheckMacOSHardwareConfig" to "No"
Step 6: Go back to the "Install Autodesk Fusion" file and run it.
Step 7: Enjoy your functional Fusion application. Expect it to be broken again with a future update, Just like linux, it seems more development time goes into breaking support for lagacy hardware, than adding new features
