Adding a vendor tool library

Given my budget I buy a number of indexable tools from Shars. Is it possible to have the Shars tool catalog added to the Vendor library? Would Shars do it or should I try to upload the library and if so, how do I or Shars do this?

Hi @j2mariashop ,

Thanks for posting! If you have the locally saved .TOOLS, .JSON, .HSMLIB, or .TSV tool library file, it can be added to the local or cloud tool libraries in the Fusion 360 CAM Tool Library Manager. Here are instructions and notes on How to import a CAM Tool Library in Fusion 360.

Please accept as solution if my post fully resolves your issue, or reply with additional questions if you have any!

Hi Julia

I guess I need to back up one step from where you are beginning. How do I
get a catalog from Shars in a format that can be uploaded as a .tools file?

They have a regular online catalog but I don't see how to download, for
example, all their indexable inserts, into a file/files that can be
uploaded into a cloud library. Does Shars need to generate a .tools file
from their catalog before I can use it?

Hi @j2mariashop ,

Shars would need to give you a .tools file, since their catalog is just a documentation of the tools that they have. If you have all the tool specs, then you also have the option to create them in Fusion yourself (see screenshot).

You would need to know specs like the following:

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Is there a way to add a sub folder under a library  (like the vendor libraries)? This would help a lot if you don't have a .tools file and want to create the tools.

For instance a Library like: Guhring with sub folders for 2, 3, 4 Flute cutters.

I don't have the CAM tool library, as all I want to do is import JSON files into fusion ?

The included Animated GIF will show you the process.  You should not "piggy back" on another post if you want good exposure to the Forum.  Create a new post next time.

You will need to show what you are seeing.  Please attach a screen capture or video.

You have posted a screen capture of the "Design" Environment.  You must be in the "Manufacturing" Environment to find the Tool Library and have the ability to do what I showed in my Animated GIF.

Take a look at this Webpage.  It outlines how to turn on your Cloud Tool Libraries and also to import a Vendor's .jason file into it.  You can also import the .jason file into your Local Folder but as the name suggest, this is only Local.  A Cloud Tool Library can be accessed by everyone who has access to your Team.  Please note in the document that only Subscription and Educational Fusion Licenses can have Cloud Tool Libraries.
