3D adaptive clearing stuck at 44.9%

Like I said in the title 3d adaptive clearing gets to 44.9% and then dead stop will not move forward. I've generated this before but I had to make a few little changes and now it won't go. please have a look and let me know if its my Mac or something else.

Thanks for posting! It looks like you may have forgotten to allow the item to be downloaded when sharing a public link - would you mind creating a new link from which the design can be downloaded?

 

It may also help to have a look at the changes that were made to the toolpath when it was not working. One way to look into this could be to:

  1. Open a previous version of the design (with the working toolpath).
  2. Create a CAM Template of the working toolpath.
  3. Bring the CAM Template into the current version of file.
  4. Use the Compare and Edit tool to investigate differences between the two toolpaths.

Thanks for posting! I found that the toolpath generation for a number of Adaptive operations stuck near the same spot for me. I believe this is due to the the zero value for the "Minimum Cutting Radius" parameter (in the Passes tab). Resetting this to its built-in default (0.1*tool diameter) allowed the Adaptive operations to generate fairly quickly.

 

I also found that the toolpath would generate with a minimum cutting radius of 0.01", but it would take much longer to generate. I was able to generate a toolpath with a minimum cutting radius of 0.005", but it did take 7 minutes to generate. When I reduced the radius to 0.001", the toolpath generation completed in 12 minutes.

 

How long did you allow the toolpath to run for before giving up? I would be curious to see if a toolpath generates if you let it run overnight. I let it go for 45 minutes today (on my 2016 MacBook Pro) and it stuck at 46% until I gave up. With that said, it does appear that smaller minimum cutting radius values can greatly increase computational time for this toolpath. I would expect this (particularly with the surfacing on the top face of your model), but Fusion should either generate a toolpath (eventually) or provide an error message if this parameter makes it unable to.

 

Fusion does appear to allow a minimum cutting radius of zero with simpler parts, so I have logged a ticket with the CAM development team (internal reference CAM-9657) to look into why the toolpath calculation is sticking at this point with the zero-value minimum cutting radius.It may be due to a certain  In the meantime, please allow a small value for the minimum cutting radius to work around this problem. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Hey Paul

Sorry I haven't replied sooner but we got hit with a big snow storm in the northeast and my power has been out all day! Thanks for the reply. I have tried it with different minimum cutting radiuses and it doesn't seem to get stuck so that's great!  I wouldn't call any of them quick but I can see the percentage slowly goinjg up.

Well Back to adaptives taking a really long time to calculate even with minimum cutting radius set at 1/10th tool radius. I have one thats taken 20-30 min and its only up to 52%.

 

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks for posting. What other changes have been made to the toolpath? The way I was able to isolate the variable making your toolpath was to use the "Compare and Edit" tool after creating a quickly generated toolpath using the defaults. You can check filter out the "different" toolpath variables and match them to the operation that generates slowly to determine which variable is slowing down the toolpath calculation. More information about Compare and Edit is linked in my initial response on this thread.

 

It may also be helpful to have a look through our CAM performance guide, as the part does require a fairly large toolpath.

I made no changes but was working on something else in the file and forgot to protect the tool paths so they all went red. So I regenerated them and it's is taking forever. At this point I'm working on another file all together and generating toolpaths on that one and while sometimes a little slow theyre not glacial.

Thanks for the response! It sounds like you are generating quite a few toolpaths simultaneously - I would recommend shutting down and trying to compute smaller chunks at a time. If you have any operations that are working particularly slowly, feel free to send the file my way.

I am having the same issue.  My toolpath gets stuck at 71.3 percent (sometimes it gets stuck at 71.2 instead) I'm using a 3d adaptive toolpath on a mac as well.

In my case I found that setting "stay down level" is what made the generation stick. 

Unfortunately it remains stuck even when resetting to "least" 

 

Actually, it seemed that the system had decided to spontaneously make the stock big enough to encompass the whole model, rather than the tiny part I was making. And that model was my whole milling machine....
