2D Drawing: Groundplane / Ground Line / Lines in general

Hi,

I'm not sure if I oversee something...

I am working on 2D drawing of a Chair design built in Fusion. I would like to draw reference measures from certain points of the chair to the ground, e.g. in the sideview... Since the legs are rounded in the end, I have no plane surface I can use instead as a reference point. That's why I would like to use the ground plane or draw a line as a ground plane....

Is there a way to do so that I haven't discovered yet? Is there in general the funtion planned to be able to draw lines?

Happy for every advice 🙂

Thanks,

Sascha

So, to make it clear what I am trying to show in the attached screenshot, I quickly made a sketch... It shows a similar situation. I can easily realize that in a sketch, but If I now rotate the profile around the centerline and would like to show exactly the same in a 2d technical drawing (e.g. height 65mm from ground) , there is no possibility to show the Base Line or reference for the ground line...

Or is there an easy way to do this?

Thanks

Hi, @mailMC32X

It's a very simple way. You just use the "Linear Dimension" instead "Dimension".

I attach the screencast for you - check, please.

Dimension from the point to the rounded end

Hi Tomasz,

thank you for your reply. Unfortunately it doesn't work:

please try to use the liniar dimension when you have a round tube with a round end (halfcut sphere) and would like to measure the point where the rounded end touches the ground. I tried with linear dimesions, but it doesn't snap...

any idea?

Hello @mailMC32X

I just ran into this problem today while making my firsts drawing in Fusion, I hope you found a solution for your problem at the time but if not here a workaround, and also for future people how might find this issue as well

It seems like fusion does not allow to draw or project any kind of geometry in the drawing workspace, however, you can make sketches from your design visible and then you can measure from that geometry

In your case, you would need to;

1. Open your design and create a sketch on the same view that your drawing view

2. Project the ground plane on the new drawing

3. Go back to your drawing and make that sketch visible from the browser

4. You should see the line for your ground plane and be able to take it as a reference for measurements.

I hope it's clear and helpful for you and for any future colleges who find this issue.
