Enhancement Request: G05.3 Surface Finish Quality Support in Autodesk Hurco Posts

Enhancement Request: G05.3 Surface Finish Quality Support in Autodesk Hurco Posts

Good morning,

I would like to propose the native implementation of the G05.3 (Surface Finish Quality) command within the Hurco post processor for Autodesk CAM. This function allows adjusting the surface finish quality through the P parameter, which can range from 1 to 100, following this logic:

"The G05.3 command is used with the Select Surface feature.

G05.3 P_, where the P value is 1 to 100. P1 gives a smoother surface but requires a longer cutting time. P100 cuts down time to cut the part, but gives a rougher surface finish."

Official Hurco reference: https://support.hurco.com/wp-content/uploads/hurco_mill/NC_Programming/#XREF_25495_Surface_Finish

Currently, this functionality is not officially integrated into the Hurco post processors provided with Autodesk Fusion/Inventor CAM. However, the need to manage the G05.3 command has already been discussed in the community, as highlighted in this thread:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/hsm-post-processor-forum/hurco-sfq-settings/m-p/6097690

My proposal is as follows:

- Add native support for the G05.3 command in Hurco posts.

- Allow the P value to be set per individual toolpath by configuring the property with scope: "operation" in the post processor, so that the surface quality can be tailored specifically for each CAM strategy.

I believe that implementing this feature would be very useful to enhance the management of surface finish quality, bringing tangible benefits in terms of flexibility and control over machining results.

Thank you for your attention.

Best regards

**I have already created this post in the HSM post processor forum, but I thought it would be appropriate to publish it here now for the forum dedicated to new ideas.

This would be great if it worked similar to Haas G187P1-P3 where the choice of one of those is dictated by smoothing and tolerance values. Considering the Hurco one is a lot larger range, 1-100, it would need to be easily customisable.
