Print Labels on the Products and Sales Orders pages

Print Labels on the Products and Sales Orders pages

I would like to be able to print labels from the product menu rather than through inventory movements. We print labels for several reasons and they don't always stem from a movement or production record. It would be especially helpful to be able to print from the tablet and the "find products" button.

I would love to be able to print labels from the sales orders tab.  You have to create a production order just to make the labels but when  you are pulling items out of inventory you then have to go back and delete the production order immediately so production does not try to make the order again.

Hello @sidney_long , thank you for posting your idea.

Can you share more about these reasons, particularly on the tablet? Having the suggestion of printing them on the products list is a request I've seen before, but not on the tablet without generating a production record or an inventory movement.

Hi @josh_wrubel,

Can you share more about these labels? I'm asking this because I'd like to know if those are related to packing slips or BoLs, or if they represent something else.

Do you have any example with this label that I can see?

Yes, the way our process works is that we use 4x3 labels and 4x6 labels.
The 4x3 labels are used for items that we produce to keep in inventory.
Say our customer only orders 50 pcs at a time but that is a waste of time
for us so we make 1,000 parts, a 4x3 label will be used. When we get a
physical Sales Order from our customer then we use the 4x6 label which is
required to have their purchase order number, destination, qty, etc..

If we have this product in inventory we would obviously just pull the
order from stock.

Where the confusion sets in is we have to create a Production order from
the sales order to create the 4x6 labels to ship the items. Our process is
where we pre-print our labels and give a "packet" to the production floor
to run the product. However if we already have it in stock the label
packet does not go to production, it just goes right to shipping. Since we
have to create a production order just to print the labels for shipping it
causes too much confusion.

So when we get a sales order, then create a production order, print 4x6
labels, give packet to shipping, if someone does not go in and
delete/archive the needless production order then when production sees this
in the system they may start running the parts needlessly. I would love to
see labels printed from the Sales orders tab just like we do in Production
Orders. In standard 5S operations, you never wait to put a label on the
box when the box is full, you always put it on the box as soon as a part
goes in it. The way Prodsmart is set up when "operators" create a label is
only printed when the box is full and they put the box as complete.

On the Sales order tab we do not print out the Bol or Packing slip until
the item is being shipped.

Thank you for these details, @josh_wrubel. You want to create these labels to prepare your orders prior to shipping when you already have inventory for those (making it redundant to create the Orders just to create the label).

I marked the idea as Gathering Support.

@andrade_david I just saw that these notifications are going to my spam folder, sorry for the delayed response!

We actually just had a situation this morning where our warehouse tech happened upon a product that didn't have a label (likely that it fell off). She was out in the warehouse with the tablet and not at her desk, but needed to print a new label. If she could print from the tablet she wouldn't have to make a trip  back and forth to the computer to relabel the product.

There are just several instances where we need to print a label and searching through an inventory movement to do it is just a little clunky and inefficient.

Thank you for the details, @sidney_long .

I understand the problem. I may also suggest an alternative, which is receiving the product with quantity 0, making the system creating a label without affecting the inventory (this assumes the quantity is not a field on the label).

Nevertheless, this idea has two separated requests: one about printing on the product and sales order menu, and another one asking to print on the tablet. We are likely to prioritize the printing from the back office menu, instead of having this capability on the tablet.

Yes much easier.
