Add Option to consume materials from warehouse locations rather than "Production"

We are using machines for projects that consume materials during production and have a storing capacity which we record as a warehouse location. (i.e. certain amount of material is moved to a machine from the shelf and we keep track of how much material is in each machine). It would be much easier if we could consume the materials from specific warehouse locations when entering the consumption on the tablet instead of having to go into the inventory movements each time and change the warehouse location from production to the warehouse location. It is an extra step that sometimes gets missed when we are busy and causes inventory numbers to be inaccurate.

Hello @haley_stump

Thank you for sharing this idea.

Can you share more about your process, and if you've considered using the material staging feature? See the article here.

Yes we have considered using material staging but that would still be a lot of extra work compared to just being able to consume from a location when inserting a production on the app instead of "production" as the default location. It would also not be accurate since we don't know exactly how much material is used from a machine until the part is weighed. Similar to how we can already specify which machine was used, it seems relatively simple to be able to specify where the material being consumed is actually coming from. We are using 3D printers where material is loaded and a part is weighed after it is removed in order to keep the inventory accurate. The machine may be holding 50lbs of material for example and after a part is printed that weighs 18lbs, we enter the production and material consumption but then we have a -18lb value in "production" instead of the showing 32lbs in the machine. We then have to go into inventory movements and change the warehouse location to the machine. If this gets missed, we have to go through many records to find where it may have happened and which location it should have come from. It often gets missed because the worker has to do this on their computer instead of the app. It is very frustrating.

@haley_stump Do you have the same SKU loaded into multiple machines at the same time? Just curious, to make sure I'm understanding this suggestion correctly.

@nickV7AL5 sometimes yes, we may have multiple machines running the same material.

We can change quantity in the way you mentioned, that is how we do it now. The issue is the location where the product is coming from not the quantity.
