Vertical slot in a cylinder, undercut operation.

Hi,

I can accomplish this undercut with a 3d pocket move, but it, and most other toolpath options cause lateral moves to reoccur.  The part shown is representative of a more complex device I am milling.

I specifically need:

1. Enter cylinder, go to side, plunge, exit.

2. Preferably do this with a threadmill, it's geometry is well suited for this in acetal plastic, a lollipop endmill or slotting mill often don't fit due to undercut reach and/or diameter.

#1  will yield a better surface finish for me, and save time.

I did try a 'form mill' which was my threadmill of choice, but I can't seem to be getting it. Any ideas?

Thanks, Eric

Hi

I think the best way will be to drive it with a sketch and the Trace toolpath

You will have to adjust the sketch to get the tool to go where you want but its still easier than trying to get a 3D toolpath to do what you want

That is cleaver and works for me, it worked in simulation, I think it's good.

It remains a bit convoluted, and Fusion could made advancements to:

1. allow threadmills to do milling (specific prohibition exists)

2. do vertical plunge undercuts organically.

That said, I appreciate your help.

I agree it not ideal but its a relatively niche application.

I have done similar undercuts with flow and an endmill but was able to tilt the part
