The 2D Pocket strategy generates a mass of unnecessary segments in the lead-in and lead-out paths

In the 2D Pocket strategy, I have selected the vertical and horizontal radius for the lead-in and lead-out. However, I am given a bunch of short lines and arcs instead of only two arcs (horizontal and vertical). How can I get rid of this unwanted collection of segments?

In order for a proper G18/19 arc to be created, the move needs to take place along the XZ or YZ plane. If it's somewhere in between, you're only going to get point-to-point moves.
