Sizes dont transfer over

So we have a simple part drawn up in fusion360 in INCH  as we normally do  and then we saved it. then export as a DXF and transfer it to our plasma cutter that has MACH3

the part is a simple rectangle 49.875" x 11.25" x 11.5"

everything is contrained.

saved it to a thumb drive to transfer to the Plasma cutter - load it up - and the part is now bigger than our 4'x8' table.

Any idea what is going on?

also tried it as a DWG file but MACH3 would not open or read that.

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Export uses the cloud translators which convert dxf (and similar CAD types) to cm.

A workaround is to use Save As DXF. This uses the local translator, but can only work on one sketch at a time.

  • Ensure you have inch units set for the design.
  • Right click on the sketch in the browser.
  • Use Save-As DXF.
  • Should open correctly in software expecting inch units.

Another is to embrace cm for this workflow.

  • When opening the DXF made via the Export workflow, find out if the consuming application can consume it as a cm units file.

Example:

  • Starting with a Fusion export DXF, that is a 10 x 10 inch sketch square. It has been converted to 25.4 cm by the export process.
  • Bring it into Inventor, which has units detection.
  • It shows detected units as cm.
  • 10 inches = 25.4 cm.
  • The Inventor design environment is inches so this appears as a 10 inch square.

Thank You ! I will give it a go and see if this corrects it.
