Random pocket selection

I have a 2d pocket tool path to create a inset and hole on 1/4 " thick MDF. When i simulate it with machine, the tool randomly moves to a pocket instead of the order i selected the pocket. Snapshot of my tool path posted.

How can i make the tool follow the  order of selection.

Be a lot easier to help if you share the model.

I guess you have preserve order checked? If you have multiple depths enabled have you also unchecked order by depth?

It seems to be going in an "Order by Depth" arrangement, even though that's not enabled 🤔

@seth.madore I think the problem is there are pockets within pockets and that's confusing 2d pocket. Also when the second depth is machined it starts from the top of the stock and wastes a lot of time.

I think I'd use 3d pocket as it's less to select and then it will complete the pocket before moving to the next and not waste time machining from the top when machining the lower pockets. Only drawback is you can't control the order with 3d pocket, sill going to save time though.

Attached file uses a 3d pocket, I think it's using the same stepdowns etc.. Machining time is less than half!

Thanks. This is a great alternate. But i am still not sure why its not obeying the selection order. BTW i am on a mac, if that complicates things a little

It looks like it gives priority to the shallowest pockets first. In the example below I selected the 3 through pockets first then the 2 shallow but the op does the shallow ones first. What makes it worse with your example is it does the shallow pockets in the order you selected them but then does the deep pockets in a random order. It would make a bit more sense if at least it did the deep pockets in the order they are in the selection set.

Odd, I reopened your original file and ran the simulation and see the random ordering but if I do a regeneration the order for the shallow pockets follow the order in the selection set you'd selected them in. Also if I clear the selection and reselect it follows the order I select the shallow pockets in.

Been a few updates lately, this is the one I'm on.

I've opened CAM-46258 to investigate the ordering issue.

As a very solid workaround, I would just program ONE pocket combo and then dump that into a Pattern > Duplication:

@seth.madore  Not sure if this has come up before, why does 3d Pocket not have the By Area option like 3d Adaptive? I've run into this in the past and just worked around the problem by using several ops.

This is the adaptive passes tab with order by area. The 3d ops seem an easier option for this job, more efficient toolpath and less selections.

Thanks. How can this behavior be reported as a bug ? Or someone from support has already see this thread?

The issue with 2D Contour/Pocket not following the selected order was reported as a bug, it's been investigated and determined that fixing it was going to be a large project. It's been parked for the time being.
