New to Manufacture: First Move z:0 and scrapes along part to first position?

Z Height start position Issue

As In the title, I setup my home location by simply zero everything to where I desire. Upon hitting start, Tool Drops rapidly to z:0 and drags along x axis to first position, Only then it lifts to retract height and proceeds to z:-0.63mm (as it should) and proceeds. Why is this occuring? Why wouldnt the move to first position respect/consider my safe retract heights etc?
I am using GRBL and have chosen such in post prcoessor, G28 enabled

I use grbl as well.  Not sure what is going on with your set ups.

I set xy then z, i raise the tool to clearance height.  Then hit return to work piece zero.

i check that this is where i expect the work piece zero to be and also the height of the tool.

i hit send and watch the tool move to  the first tool path and plunge to feed height.
