Miter Fold tool path help please!

Hello all (or anyone)!

I'm hoping for some help here. I've attached a file of two corner stools that I'm trying to cut.

Thee issue is with the 45deg bevel cuts. I'm using a big v bit, but it's not big enough to cut straight down on a contour, so I've tried using:

3D Contour - this machines the top, or it won't go down all the way if I use .25" step-downs and takes forever to generate.

3D Ramp - seems to work better, but breaks the faces up into weird unntinuous parts. Then, as it changes faces to cut, it seems to ramp down forever, so long that I had to stop the program, but I could see the G code flying through.

I do a fair amount of miters, and unless the bit is big enough, I guess I'm lost.

Much appreciated in advance.

This might help show what I' talking about.

Attached image is of the 3d Ramp toolpath - this one essentially stops half way through.

Hi @OliverDownie

I made a version that seems to work with a 3D contour and a trace operation to finish it.

What do you think? Does this have the error you're talking about?

Cheers,

Karina

Hi Karina,

Thank you.

It says that I don't have access to this page for some reason.

You're awesome, thank you!

Seems like it will work.

I understand now that you need to add the trace to finish up for whatever reason (seems unnecessary!)

I does look like it slows down on one part - which was happening before, but I'll run it and see what happens.

I came up with my own work around using an adaptive clearing going down 1/2" x 2" perimeter to clear out for the v bit, then using a 2D contour. Other programs that I use can do this all in one tool path.

That's Fusion - so good and frustrating at the same time.

Cheers

Oliver
