I am trying to figure out how to tell Fusion 360 that it does not need to raise/lower the tool. We have a somewhat specialized bit that is very long that we use to cut soft material, so it is not necessary to lower it, otherwise it would plunge into the fixture and break.
Is there a way to modify the Setup and/or toolpaths so that Fusion knows the tool is already "in position" in terms of the z-axis? I was hoping the tool orientation part of of the geometry tab would work, but it only centered the tool correctly, the tool is still higher than it will be in practice.
Hi @Anonymous,
Thanks for raising your query onto Autodesk Forum.
If I am understanding you correctly you have a sketch geometry as a design and wish to machine it at it Z level. I will suggest you to try using the Trace strategy. This will generate the toolpath at the Z level as in the design (Vector) selected. If you wish to control the Z; you can then control it using the Axial stock to leave under Passes tab. So if you wish to have a Z pass 0.2mm above the selected geometry then you can enter this value as Axial stock to leave.
Also like to inform you that if you are trying to create a toolpath for Laser or Plasma machine then we do have a dedicated toolpath strategy called 2D Profile under Fabrication > Cutting.
Here the main step will be to select the correct Post processor for the machine you want to output the toolpath for. Selecting the correct Post processor will output the toolpath as a machine readable G-code in the format the machine requires.
I hope this answers your question.
Can you post a model that you are trying to cut.
