Lathe Cam Stock Offset turning

Hello

I have searched through the posts but cant seem to find a answer for my issue forgive me if it has been covered elsewher.

 

I would like to bore a bearing pocket in a 4" x 3" stock 2" from the top so the pocket will be off center.

Is there a way to tell 360 where the Z axis centerline is located in relation to the stock?

I think this is what you are asking for, just edit the setup and choose the origin as "selected point" the pick the hole.Screen Shot 2016-03-22 at 9.42.26 AM.png

I don't have those options avalible in a turning setup.

Mark,  

 

Can you actually get Fusion to generate a toolpath for this though?  I played around with it the other day when the question was first asked and couldn't get it to work.

I started with a drilling operation which worked fine, but the inside profile did not seem to know how to act at all.  A the graphic displayed for the radius settings was shown far from the part itself.

I found I needed to set the X axis pointing in the direction below then it worked.

Got the error about crossing the rotary axis though, you need to have a through hole to get rid of the error.

Interesting... I hope the original poster doesn't mind me posting this here.  When I first tried this, I don't think they had posted their part so I just drew up a rectangular part with an off center hole and tried to do an internal profile.  I just looked at it again and can't get it to work at all.  And if I try to set  the X axis to one of the edges it rotates it about 45 degrees from that edge.

 

Is it just me?

There's something odd with your file, I've seen it before and I din't know what happens but it seems like the CAM is working to the wrong scale so you end up with this odd display.

I found I needed to make the tolerance 0.001 for the spun profile to work. I managed to get it to work by entering sizes on the radii tab, file attached.

I don't know what's going on with your file, I made it into a component and copied into another file but it still doesn't want to work. So I made another file from scratch and it worked first time.

Thats the exact same issue I had LOL. Marks solution worked and you need to check spun profile as well

@Anonymous I played with your file a bit more and got it working by rotating it in the model work space so the hole is around the Z axis like this.

Why it should make any difference I don't know, the orientation of the model should not matter. I wonder if it's to do with the spun profile as I've not had any problems with parts that aren't around the Z axis before.

I've attached the file. I made the part into a component then rotated, I had to delete the set up as it would not work after rotating the part,
