Too far down to go in with a flat end mill and Rest machining on a contour. How can I get Parallel to surface just this remaining section - ideally without drawing my own patches or bodies to drive the selection?

A) It's not 100% clear to me which surface you are referring to
B) Everything is just so much easier to control when you have a proper surface/patch to work with 🙂

Having done identical features on some of the parts I've run, I've always opted for sketches to constrain what I need (creating a boundary). It is possible to use Rest Machining and Touch/Avoid to get what you see below, no sketches needed

When I tried Rest is gave me empty toolpaths. I never had much luck with surfacing rest to work properly in the past.

I managed to cheat it to do what I want with 2D contour and rest/roughing passes

This is a common situation in the machining world, I am surprised someone doesn't have a better algorithm for these situations.
