What tool path would you use to cut this helix ramp with a keyway cutter?

I'm trying to cut this helix/ramp with a keyway cutter because it is a undercut. But I don't know the right toolpath to select or what options to select. I would use a .100-.150" thick keyway cutter and take multiple step downs/ups to get the full width. How would I get that?

You can use Circular with a large lead in, but I always do 2D contour with depth of cut (modify top/bottom heights to get required slot width)

Thanks for the idea, but i had problems where it is not moving in Z and clipping the feature.

In the last picture you shared, it appears your model isn't aligned straight along you Z axis. The part it "clips" is kind of tapered to the stock.

Its the design! At first I thought he just wanted to cut it using a constant ramp, not that the features are actually sloped.

You can make a 3D toolpath using Trace and left compensation. but keep in mind due to the radius you will be back-cutting with is as it goes down in Z. Only safe way to make it like the model is physically tilt the part. 

If's about the angle, and not the surface then trace could be enough. Be sure to add some lead ins and everything required to make it not collide.

FYI 2D toolpaths means it goes off 2d geometry lines/part faces NOT that it is confined to a fixed Z height. The 3D in 3D toolpaths just means it goes off your 3D MODEL for geometry. 


File re-attached. Add some lead ins and another DOC and you may just be on your way (duplicate it, add axial stock to leave)

You showed a much better picture of the ramp. But yes it is a helix.

 

I tried trace and it is showing a tool path I am happy with. I did have to delete that slot, overwise it made some ****y linking moves.
