What's the easiest way to remove cusps on open pockets?

Hello,

i've always struggled through the 2d pocket operation on F360.  if i were to select a boss or something that is below the model top but not necessarily a pocket "per se" it always leaves cusps along the edges. which i understand because the pocket selection is enclosing the entire area. to get away from this problem i can make it an open contour, but then im machining tons of air. especially on larger parts. the only other thing i can think of is to draw some sketches around the areas i want. but this is a slow process.

what is a better more efficient way to program these surfaces?Screenshot (63).pngScreenshot (63).png

There are a couple things you can do, such as clever use of 2D Contour, or use Horizontal finishing pass. I'm not fond of Horizontal, as it tends to cut one additional pass all around the part, wasting significant time..

Here is a file with a couple different ways showing what Seth talked about. I modified your pocket just to do one face, and I added a contour op that does one face with multiple passes. Hopefully these methods help.

If you have any questions as to how I did this, let us know.

very clever usage of the 2d pocket. i almost never use the stock contours option. forget its even there most of the time. awesome display of how to solve this problem i've been having. will definitely remember that next time.. this time i already did the 2d contours. and got it working right. Now just wish me luck on this job. 12 hours to make 1 of these, seems like alot of time but somehow im almost out of time on this program!

@seth.madore Nope, just procrastinating haha

Just hoping the other forum we are part of starts to pick up some activity and then started to have a look this forum to see what was happening. It's like a ghost town in there......
