Very long ramp-in for a fairly simple toolpath (?)

Hello, thank you in advance to anyone who may see this and know what my issue may be.

I'm fairly new to F360 so this (what seems to be a simple operation) is becoming very frustrating.

I have a pocket I would like to cut out of a solid piece of MDF (going to be a door) and the door has these horizontal slots running across it. The slot is 6.35mm and my tool has a 6.32mm diameter. By default, the tool does not seem to want to fit inside the pocket (it says the toolpath is empty).

I unchecked the "stock to leave" box and that seemed to allow my tool to fit, but now has a really long ramp-in.

Also, should I have the operation as a slot or a pocket? The clot extends all the way through from left to right, so by default the "slot" operation wants to stop before the tool breaches each side.

Sorry if I did a poor job explaining this. There are tons of YouTube videos out there but it is sometimes difficult to find a solution to specific problems.

Thank you again!

Mike

This is almost certainly due to the Ramp Angle set to the default 2°. If you're entering from outside the material it shouldn't be necessary at all. If you can post some screenshots of your toolpath settings, or better yet attach the exported F3D, it should be easier to see what's going on with more certainty.

Thanks for getting back to me! I seem to have found a solution but I will still be trying to troubleshoot this issue just for practice so I can better understand Fusion 360.
