Vcarving Text (Monogram Letter) on a ShopBot

Greetings

I am a new user to Fusion 360 and have been getting comfortable with the design portion but now want to expand.

I have access to a ShopBot CNC and bought two cutter bits. a 90 degree and a 60 degree both zero radius and 1/2' Diameter.

I'd like to engrave a 3-4" Letter into a Walnut lid of a Cigar Humidor (actually a whisky box) but think like a jewelry box.

Can anybody share this workflow and help? I can import a DXF or CVS of the desired letter in a font that looks like hand carving like Times Roman etc.

Hi Craig, thanks for posting.

Firstly to import the DXF file go to INSERT > Insert DXF in the Design workspace. A dialog box will open which will allow you to be able to select which plane or sketch on your stock material you'd like the DXF to be imported onto.

Move to the Manufacture workspace and create a setup. To add an engrave toolpath go to 2D > Engrave.

Select or create a chamfer mill tool in the tool library. You can edit an existing chamfer mill by right clicking on a tool in the library, or create a new tool by clicking the + in the top left. In the Cutter tab you can edit geometry parameters of the tool - bear in mind that the chamfer mill cutter angle is measured as a taper angle not an inclusive angle so you may need to adjust your angle value.

In the geometry tab of the engrave dialog box select the contours which you would like to engrave, then click OK and an engrave toolpath will be generated. To export the toolpath use ACTIONS > Post Process, here you can select the Post Configuration applicable to your CNC.

Thank you for a very clear and concise solution. I really appreciate it. I will try it when I get home. Makes total sense and BTW I even learned a couple tips like the right clicking on the tool.

Sorry I tried to save a letter in the font I liked for a carved look using Inkscape. I saved as a DXF but when I insert it into Fusion 360 it rejects it. It thinks there are 3D elements.

It seems to work with a SVG image. 

I know Inkscape is not your product and I will continue to experiment.
