Using Fusion 360 together with company servers

My company recently made the change from programming with Mastercam to Fusion. We have 3 full time programmers, and they all work within our company's server, to be able to get set up sheets and programs to the operators on the floor. We do all of our CAD using Solid Works, so Im not concerned about that side of things.

They also need to be able to work on each others programs,  but with how the cloud is set up, it seems that they are each creating their own projects and folders in side fusion, and no one can have access to everything.

Im sure there is a solution, but Im just not seeing it.

Thank you,

I am thinking that Fusion Team might be a solution. Everything is stored in the cloud on the Team Hub rather than each user's personal hub (in the cloud) .

That works for just the programmers though. Is there a way to redirect the posted programs and set up sheets to a specified location on our server? Or are they going to have to manually move them every time?

Ahh, right!

You might want to ask that in the CAM forum.

Ok thanks.

Is there a way I can just redirect this conversation to that forum?

Hi -

We don't currently support directly writing posted output (or setup sheets) to a directory within Fusion Team -- though I expect we'll add this in the relatively near future. The best I can suggest at the moment is to use a shared network drive.

Hopefully I'm understanding properly what you're trying to do.

@TrippyLighting thanks for tossing this over to the CAM forum 🙂

When you post process your g-code, you are able to select WHERE the code is going. This can be a network drive, a USB stick, basically anywhere. There is some clunky behavior, but it's not too painful. Further, you can set default locations for each post processor.

For instance in my company, I have my post going to C:/Manufacturing/Customers and then I search manually to the correct location.

I know they are going to be exposing more file options in the post dumper, such that you should be able to grab the project name and file name from inside Fusion and search to a local folder for a matching item. At least, that's the theory...

Posts don't go to the cloud, you just pick a folder. You can set a default folder to post to on the post dialog, do you need more than that?

No, that should be fine.

I guess I jumped the gun on this question. I haven't tried to post out a program myself.

However I did try to "Save As" and it wouldnt let me save it to my server. Will I have to export the Fusion File once finished programming?

The Fusion file would remain in the Cloud. Fusion Team (or just inviting people to the project outside of Team) would be how they would access the file. Be aware; inviting people to a project does allow them to access the file at the same time as you, so it can become an issue...

Your G-code would be saved to a local drive, accessible by those who you permit.

If you want a local copy then yes, just use export not Save As. You will not be able to export a file containing linked files from within Fusion though. If you need to export a design with linked designs you need to download the top level design from the online dashboard, if the top level design has a 2d drawing you only need to download the 2d drawing and all referenced files will be downloaded in the f3z file.

Are you using linked designs or a single file with all parts?

Shearing the file can work quite well through your team hub, I have access to quite a few peoples fusion hubs they send me a message can you look at the file this that or the other

Mark,

Currently we are only using single part files. If we ever receive an assembly, our engineers will dissect it for programming.

So from what Ive gathered, programming will have to create a Fusion Team or Hub, create customer files there, program the parts there, then export the post and set up sheets back to our server. I will start with looking into how to create a Team and inviting the other programmers.

Something you might want to investigate is a file\folder structure. Just using projects doesn't work well as you end up with everything in what would be the root folder in a conventional system.

What I've done is use one project then create subfolders for each customer then more subfolders for their projects. The problem with this is you can't share a single folder you have to share the whole project. Another option might be to create a project for each customer then folders for each job.

The file system is pretty poor really seems like they need to go back and finish it. Would be OK if you have one huge project a year doesn't work if you have 10 jobs a day.

Sounds good. Thats how our company has set up the folder system. So it wont be a learning curve there.

Ok, So I created a Fusion Team, created a new project "Customers", invited my programmer, he accepted and we are now both on a team. But we can not find a way to move his already existing programming folders into the new "Customer" project. He did a little research and said that we need to create a Company Hub, and invite both of us into it. Does this sound correct? If so, how would I do this. I havent found anything on "Company Hub" via forums or YouTube.

I think one of the guys mentioned it earlier.

He will have to export the cam sessions, then you can upload them to the new project space

A team hub is just the name ADSK gave the file system.

Have you add desktop connector you need this for anycad this sits in your computer and you can give your programmer network access to it.

What have you set his access in the team hub too?.
