Using dual spindle machine?

I'm currently looking at a used CNC router that happens to have a dual spindle attachment already installed.  Is it possible to use the second arm with Fusion 360?  There are no options for this in the CAM section, but is this something that can be done with a post processor?  (Still a bit scary I imagine as I wouldn't be able to simulate the operation.)

Thanks!

Michael

Good Morning,

Thanks for posting. How are the spindles handled within your machine? Is there an M code to active the second spindle? Or how do you indicate which spindle to pick up a tool?

I have used routers where two spindles mimic each other at a specified distance along the gantry (both are on separate heads)... In this case, the XY offset for the secondary spindle is handled by the control.. If this is the case, it should be a relatively simple post mod. However, I'd be interested in seeing how you would like to define which spindle the tool is picked up in

Thanks!  I'm actually not sure about the answer to any of those questions, as we don't own the machine (it's one our company the looking at and was available used).  I'll ask.

But in principle, it's possible to use both spindles (assuming a properly made post-processor) even though Fusion 360 doesn't give machining options specific to dual spindle machines?

Correct,  it is possible. If the machine doesn't automatically handle the offset and spindle selection, the post processor will need modifying to suit this.

Hope this helps!

Hi George

Are you able to assist us or steer us in the right direction to help a customer of ours.

They have a dual spindle machine and we need assistance getting this to work with Inventor CAM.

Thanks

Paul
