Urgent -- Stock to Leave Automatically Rounds after Update

Hello, I use Radial Stock to Leave all the time for tool compensation. I'll use it to sneak up on a dimension. It's easier than in-control comp in many quick instances, especially when one doesn't have a tool probe to measure tool diameters.

The update now displays a rounded value for the stock to leave. This is a serious issue for me! I frequently modify in .00025" increments, and now I can't see where I am at because it rounds to the 2nd or 3rd decimal place only. From what I can tell the G-Code outputs the un-rounded value.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE revert this back to how it was before the update! PLEASE!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

See attached video for the example.

Go to Preferences in the top right corner by clicking on the account icon. Then go to Units and Measurement and change the General Precision to ".1234". This keeps it from rounding in the toolpath.

Curious, how is it easier to edit the program, repost, and re-run then just adding wear on the controller?

Laptop right next to machine. I don't like the comp lead-ins in the toolpath sometimes. Some controls are worse than others. Many reasons.

@elizabethX83R9 This is actually a really cool way of doing things. Thanks for posting the idea. Cutter comp leads always gave me problems on like a tight bore using cutter comp. Not in the program but on the machine. Always errored out if not set just right. And even then, was iffy.

So, I am guessing you have stock to leave set at say .00025" and with cutter comp off, which accounts for a tool dia tolerance, correct? Then I am guessing you loop through or re-run, adjust tool offset incrementally as needed?

Just curious where you are encountering these issues, I've programmed 127 parts so far this year and never once had to cheat the system like this. Is the Haas control just that good at dealing with G41's?

@programming2C78B not to steal the thread, but the issues I ran into were too tight of radii in the leads that the Haas controller couldn't compute or otherwise errored out with G41 on. Admittedly, I was experimenting with a couple things - eliminating drill/reem operation in favor of using an end mill to create a precision bore, and experimenting with the WIPS system to demonstrate it's usefulness in this situation of tool size detection feeding right into cutter comp. My routine was pre-drill, rough mill, finish mill with cutter comp on. Always the Haas controller errored out on the leads. I forget what the exact error was and I never really trouble shot the exact problem too far, but correcting the issue just to get the program to run involved constant tweaking of lead radii.

Regardless, I like the method that @elizabethX83R9 uses. Remove cutter comp as a source of the problem by adding stock to leave to sneak up on the dimension, loop and adjust as needed. Would have completely solved my issue had I applied that back then.

I have had issues with the lead-ins causing raised material. Okay, there's overlap. I don't want to have to use overlap. Sometimes my finish passes are 2D Pocket. I don't want extra loop-de-loops in it. I use 3 different mill controls and 2 different lathe controls. It is easy on the Haas to modify tool comp. I am working on a part mod right now where the original part doesn't meet the CAD file, so some finessing with stock to leave is preferred versus adding tool wear/comp.

Yes, and when I need to go over I do negative stock to leave. Very easy to control and modify. And quick when the laptop is right at the machine.

Gotcha. So you adjust the stock to leave and re-post and re-run?

I was always trying to do an M98 loop with cutter wear adjustment. For example:

N100

<finish pass>

G28 Z

M0

(Check dimension. If bad adjust cutter wear and turn skip blocks off. If good reset cutter wear and turn skip blocks on)

/M98 P100

But the machine would always error out over not being able to compute the radius of the lead in/out path at some point. Made for very frustrating days of adjusting the leads to be just right, or cutter wear.

Anyway, I am glad to have read this approach!
