Uneven Profiling Depth on 3D OP

I've attached a pic of the tool paths, and a link to the whole file. I am trying to profile the outside of this part but it will cut the corners at a deeper depth than it does the long sides. I can't figure out how to adjust, fix it, or why its doing this. I was thinking maybe I have to do the outside and the inside in two different separate ops and then I would be able to somehow adjust it differently, I dunno. You can see in the screen shot that the bit comes down much lower on the short sides and around the corners, than it does on the long sides of the part, I can't figure out why or how to fix it. 

 

 

 I'd certainly appreciate a little knowledge, thanks in advance!

Well it's roughing the outside corners because there is stock there that exceeds the amount in your Stock to Leave fields on the Passes tab. If you want to avoid roughing those corners, change your Stock Selection to None (leave the box checked) and select the same profile as your Machining Boundary. Frankly I think it's a good idea to rough those corners though, as it will leave you a more consistent amount of material for your finish pass.

Oh I see what you mean, that's really slick! I agree, I would like it to rough out the corners too. Do you have any idea why that Chamfer op isn't working? It will accept the inside, but I don't want t chamfer the inside, just the outside, and it won't let me select the outside. I was thinking maybe because the model had the chamfer built in so there was no stock, or something like that, but I really don't know, I just want to add a chamfer op and I can't get it to select the outside top of the part to chamfer?

One factor to the issue is that you have a fillet, not a chamfer. If you have a bullnose or ball mill you can surface that radius, but the 2D Chamfer isn't going to do very well here, as it is mainly a deburring operation and most likely the kernel is keeping the tool away from what it sees as a collision: the radius itself.

 

I see there's no Timeline in the Model workspace, which leads me to believe this is an imported part. If you want a chamfer, I'd select all the surfaces of the fillet and delete them, and just use the 2D Chamfer as it's best utilized (without a modeled chamfer).

 

If you want to surface that radius I would suggest a 3D Contour operation.

 

Also I noticed you're going to gouge that part pretty badly with the '2D Contour2 Outside Final' toolpath:

Use the bottom of the model for your bottom height definition and just keep that top profile for the contour selection. No need to select more than one unless they are different areas (IE Inside and Outside profiles in the same toolpath).

Man your good! I caught that gouge when I was test running it on the mill, I did a 2d contour, selecting the bottom height in the heights tab,  to the bottom height. it worked, came out really well. I get what your saying about a chamfer vs a fillet, thanks for explaining that to me btw. I tried to do a 3d contour with a 45* bit and a 1\4 ball em and it tries to do the insides and the outsides and around the islands, not just the fillet around the top. I used the heights tab to limit it to just the top of the part but I pretty much know that's not right?

I've whipped up a quick example of a 3D Contour operation in your file (and fixed the couple other issues while I was at it). Important areas to look at are Bottom Height definition, the Machining Boundary, and Avoid Surfaces.

 

I would also suggest using a Horizontal operation to finish your floor, and putting it before your wall finish operations with the same radial Stock to Leave as the roughing toolpath, but zero on the axial.

Thats super cool, I think that is going to look great!  So the one problem I have left, I think, is the dept of the finishing pass, where it goes along the inside walls and around the islands. I ran it how it is and this op is 0.02in deeper, its because I left 0.02in stock to leave in the previous operation. I would like to leave 0.02 radial stock but no axial stock, (because the finish on the floor is fine and it will take a long time to go over the whole floor with the smaller bit) when I tried to do that in the stock to leave box it won't let me. It just says invalid toolpath.(if I leave 0.0in axial stock to leave) I tried fudging it, told it to leave 0.001in axial and it won't take that either. I need to leave the radial stock, so I can go in there and clean it up, but I don't need to leave any axial stock, I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, but I guess I am?

I did a horizontal op, it looks great, thanks! My concern is that its an additional operation I would be able to avoid if I could just get the roughing op to leave 0.0 axial stock to leave. The issue is that the finish is plenty good enough and this just takes extra time so I really want to avoid it if possible. I just cant get it to accept leaving 0 stock to leave in the axial box.

I spoke too soon, Some of the islands are getting cut down shorter than they are supposed to be. At 34 minutes 9 seconds, in the roughing operation, right about there, you can see the bit goes over the top of one of the islands and cuts it down. It is doing this on three of the seven islands.  It shows the tool path as a blue line, which makes me think it is doing it on purpose. I thought at first,  that I could raise the retract height to avoid that, I thought it was an accident, but now I'm thinking it is happening on purpose and I cant figure out why or how to fix it. I'd love to hear what you think.

A360 isn't letting me download new versions, won't send the email, presumably because I already downloaded one within the seven day window. Can you export and share here? I am not seeing any model violation in the old one.

First make sure Flat Area Detection is checked in the Passes tab before you go exporting.

Wow, your pretty dam impressive! I tried it with 0 axial stock to leave ten times, wouldn't work, then I checked that box and it worked! So awesome!! !  Thank you so much.What does that mean by the way? I cant really tell if that op is going to leave all the islands the same height, can you? Do you have any idea why it would have cut some down to a shorter height? I checked the model, yeah it's imported, my cousin made it, I told him I could do it no problem, haha.
