Unable to select face.

So I'm working on a Pocket NC tutorial. (See link at bottom)(See page 26-28).  As the title implies I can not select the face it wants me to.  All honestly I don't really know what I'm looking for considering I am brand new to the software.  Thanks.

All files needed are in the tutorial in the link above.

Could you share your file here (the one you are working with).

File > Export > Save to local folder. Return to thread and attach the .f3d file in your reply

The problem may exist on your end (how the model was built or how you are selecting it

Here are the parts I could get, although during the export it was giving me an error. (Not supported with referenced components.)

I've seen a selection problem like that using files from Pocket NC and the parts are locked. So that prevents you from selecting them.

I am not in front of Fusion or I would send a screen shot. But I believe if you select the part there is a choice to unlock the part. Then you will be able to select surfaces etc.

I hope this helps!

Hi Randy,

I think this is what you mean. The imported model is linked to the original file. You can toolpath the original part file. or you can break the link and then you should be able to select the face. Right click over the Component/Model and select Break Link.

Mike: Yes that was it. You are correct. I had to break that link then I could select the faces. Randy

this doesn't work for me.  I'm folllowing the "Intro to 2D machining" tutorials but cannot select any geometry when it comes to pocket selections under 2D adaptive clearing or 2D pockets...  any other ideas?  The geom is not locked or set to unselectable and all the selection filters are on.

If you can't/won't share your file, could you perhaps give us a screencast showing your workflow?

Hi Seth

Thanks for the response - after hours of trawling for answers on this and
retrying it, it suddenly started working. The funny thing is that I don't
think I changed anything that could have made a difference and now it works
I can't make it not work again!

The only thing I thought is that I may have pressed shift down to select
something when it initially started working... just a hunch. But now it
works normally (without shift)

If it breaks again I will get in touch.

Kind regards

Matt

I came across a same / similar problem when importing a set of lines (in 3D sketch mode) from an Excel file, using a script. After import, I could see a perfectly good flat shape, but it would not be recognized as a face. The solution was (or seemed to be) that my points in Excel were not in a perfectly flat plane: they were created in Matlab to lie on a plane which was not parallel to one of the coordinate planes. Supposedly, the rounding off from Matlab to Excel introduces small errors.

The solution I found is to Construct a plane through three of the imported points, create a new Sketch on that plane, and Project the imported lines onto that sketch. The new Sketch (provided it is closed etcetera) will then be recognised as a face and is selectable - in my case for producing a loft.

For what it is worth.
