I am trying to bore out the inside taper of a small cylinder.

The trouble i see is with the small diameter which is .25

I made a special tool which is .125 dia, which would work

except for the fact that (in simulation) after each cut the tool

retracts beyond the center line, before making the next cut

 (which would cause a collision with opposite wall

 

Is there any way to make the tool not retract out beyond the center line?

Enter on center line--take a cut--retract on center line ??

I believe there is still a bug in the boring code that if you don't have a through hole it will always to go the centerline.  Looks like you should have that problem though.

Just burning some time here I drew up a similar shaped part and used my little (but no as little) 5.0 mm boring bar.

 

I think the important settings to stop from retracting to the center line were setting the Clearance Radius large enough, and setting the Linear Lead-Out Distance to something small enough.

 

I attached the part I was playing with.  I didn't touch any of the feeds/speeds or really anything else so they're all garbage values.

I did not get your file--

Here is something interesting--

You know we have three cutting directions

Front to back--Back to front--Both ways

I tried all three ways--Geuss what ?? Choosing Both ways

(in the simulation) looks like it does not go past the center !!

"WEIRD"  Check it out--I will give it a try.
