Toolpath Simulation broken when a mirror image toolpath uses Compenation Type "In Control"

Fusion has a serious bug in the toolpath simulation. If a toolpath is mirrored and uses the Tool Compensation type 'In Control" the simulation does not show the correct results. If the "In Computer" option is selected then the simulation works fine.

 

The odd thing is the code that is posted in correct. It still doesn't work in the new Machine Simulation which is meant to use the post to simulate the toolpath. Broken Toopath Sim.png

Are there any updates about the mirror-imaged toolpaths simulation fault I reported, the other month ?

 

I've been having to program left and right-handed 5-axis components all week and it has been impossible to safely and quickly use this software in its current state.

 

We really do need help in getting this fixed, we can't trust Fusion 360 simulation (including machine simulation) with this bug.

In short help !!!!

Thank you for replying so quickly.

 

I probably can't get over to you how scary (actually physically scary) it is to run code on our 5-Axis machines when the simulation is showing it's going to wipe everything.

 

Any further progress updates would be really appreciated.

I've just quickly done this file as a demonstration.

 

The right-hand arm program works fine in a test run, the left-hand arm program really doesn't.

 

Not only does it show the toolpath demolishing the stock with tool compensation on, but the 2d pocket contours just does not post at all.

Toolpath simulation still does not work correctly with this issue in Fusion 360. Is there any word yet on a fix for this problem?

We had this tentatively fixed in the last release, but that fix introduced some bugs where the incorrect compensation state was being passed into the code (G41 instead of G42). We had to revert the change, so it's back to the developers for additional work.

Thank you for the progress update. I did notice that simulation did seem to work correctly on screen in the last update but one, and then was rolled back.

 

We have just scaped some Mirrored parts using Fusion, because we spent so much time watching that the major mirror image contours weren't going wipe out the machine, as shown in Fusion's simulation, we didn't notice one 3mm bores was not mirror imaged on both components. 

 

Not Fusion fault as such, but because with Mirror parts the simulation doesn't seem to work well at the moment mistakes are hard to pick up.

Do you have access to a "backplotter", something that will show the toolpaths from posted code? I know it's an extra step and something that shouldn't be required, but that may give you an added level of security...

Yes we use Cimco, as a basic code double check.

 

That said most of the work we are doing at the moment involves 5 axis rapid prototyping of irregular shaped castings.It really isn't simple to test all toolpaths visually on a wireframe display with our basic version. 

 

The mirror imaging non-symmetrical models in Fusion 360 is hard/painful. You appear to have 3 options.

 

i   -   Keep the Original stock and model defined, pattern the toolpaths and lose all 3d stock simulations

 

ii   -  Keep the original stock and select the mirror imaged stock as the new stock. You get simulation but lose all tootpaths that reference the orginal stock (ie anything involving rest maching, heights that ref the stock)

 

iii  -  Select the new mirror model and mirror imaged stock and copy all the toopaths from the original Cam setup. Reselect all the toolpaths curves and containment (can be over a hundred operations) and also that will require re-drawing any 2d sketch geometry used as containment as a mirror image again.

 

Honestly there are times I want to cry when I have to do the left and right handed components. That's without even mentioning the simulation bug.

I've given mirror image bug quick check after the last update and it appears that the bug has been corrected.
