Stock Saving for Design

Im trying to reduce the amount of scrap material I make. With that being said im trying to manufacture more parts from the material I've already cut. I have attempted to save the stock but it saves as an STL file and then when I create the fusion design its dimensions are completely off. Can someone help with this problem or show me a better way to do this?

I want to save the stock that hasn't been cut and keep it as a stock to be used at a later time. So if I have a large area of unmachined metal, I can pull up that stock template and machine a smaller part on it

Hi @TechrimStandards,

 

All you need to do is simulate your tool-paths, right click on the stock > Stock > Save Stock.

 

This will save the STL.

I dont think its possible to make a step file of the "off cuts" that are left from the stock material.

Could you roughly model the left over material and use it as stock for future parts.

selecting the stock from solid option works well.

I did that and my dimensions are 10x larger than normal

Yeah it does that if you dont import the mesh from the insert menu, did you try that?

This is a pretty old topic but I do have a "workaround" for this.

 

Run your Simulation. 

"Save Stock"

Upload that stock into your project folder. 

Import the stock into your new file.

It will import 10x size as a mesh.

Hit "enter" to deposit it where it imports without moving it. 

Go to your mesh editing tab or right click on the mesh in your browser and hit "edit"

Go to "Scale"

In the scale window you select the mesh as the Entity and the "Point" is the "0" in your origin folder of your browser.

Scale Factor is .1

 

That should shrink it to the correct size and place it exactly in space where it should be.

 

If you ever need to move it to another position just make sure you move it with a reference solid body so you have actual points to reference instead of trying to reference the mesh.
