Stock contours

I don't use stock contours very often, but they have worked in the past. What am I doing wrong here?

I have two open chains, one on both sides of this plate. Without stock contours, it works as expected, but I want to trim the corners. If I use stock contours, it trims the corners and goes all the way around the plate.

No stock contour:

With stock contour:

Thanks.

Would you be able to share your Fusion file here?
File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d/.f3z file in your reply.

This is expected behavior. Since your contour wraps around the edge, enabling Stock Contour will project that selection to the stock contour on the opposite side of the part, and the same thing goes for the selection/contour on the other side; project to opposite side.

We can prove this out by deleting one side of selections and observing what the resulting toolpath looks like;

What you CAN do, however, is to use a couple of sketches as your Stock Contours to constrain the toolpath area:

Got it. Seems like improvements could be made here. I would think it would respect the open chains.

Thanks Seth.

Hmm. I don't think that's on the docket any time soon. If you have access to the MFG Extension, it's possible to use the Trim Toolpath to get rid of all the offending areas (doesn't work when you're using Cutter Compensation).

We may also be working towards the Touch/Avoid functionality (found in 3d toolpaths) migrating into 2D toolpaths. I'm fuzzy on that, so I'll have to confirm with the devs and will retract this portion of the response if needed.
