Solid from Stock from Solid?

Greetings!

I've recently started working on more elaborate projects using F360 and my X-Carve / Form 2 with one being a 1:16 scale E-100 ( scaled to my other Tamiya RC Tanks ) which is an easy to make model because of the lack of complex shapes except for the entire drivetrain like the Sprockets and Idler Wheels:

Tracks, Sprocket, Road- and Idler WheelTracks, Sprocket, Road- and Idler Wheel

3D Printing some of the parts, like the tracks and parts of the wheels in Resin, wouldn't be unthinkable but certainly not some of the load-bearing parts like the Sprocket and Idler Wheels which is why I'm looking at the possibility of milling them in aluminium on the X-Carve which, based on another project I just finished heavily relying on 3D Adaptive Toolpaths, is going to take a while especially in aluminium.

Now... From my limited experience with the 3D Adaptive toolpath, I'm getting the hunch that F360 does not take the change to a Stock into consideration when it's calculating the next one? Is there a possibility to take the Solid one can save in the Simulation and us it on the next Operation?

So far I only found out how to save a Simulated Stock as a 3D Model but I couldn't figure out how to import that model back into F360 to be used as the new Stock from Solid in order for F360 to take the actual/expected model into consideration for the next Operation/s hopefully speeding things up.

In the rest machining section there is an option From Previous Operations, make sure From Setup Stock is unchecked, also uncheck stock contours.

Mhh... Interesting. I guess I was just looking for a more complicated solution.

Gonna have to give this a more in-depth try!

Thanks!

Hi Durhal,

It is actually quite easy to import the stock from a previous operation.

If you have the stock saved ie simulate dont reset, right click save stock. save to file.

Then simply go into model (now design) go to insert chose insert mesh pick saved file and in it comes.

You can then select this as stock in stock selection choose stock from solid.

Ohh... Insert Mesh from the Ribbon Menu... I was fixated on the File Dropdown Menu >_<

Yea, that worked out! Thanks a lot!
