slow toolpath generation times

I am getting much much slower toolpath generation times , slower than I have ever seen... all since after the update. anyone else experiencing this? and does anyone know of anyways I can improve this. Its taken about 20 minutes now to regenerate some toolpaths which is really frustrating. I have a pretty decent PC i would say too so I dont think its hardware issues.  (I7 4790K CPU, GTX2070 GPU, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD)

Thanks

Jeff

20 minutes to regenerate a toolpath sounds horrible. Yesterday I had an instance where the toolpath basically doesn't generate (I'm not going to wait 20 minutes to find out if it does). There was a slight mismatch with the feed height and the vertical lead-in radius and ramping clearance height, and when I was trying to modify it (but still wasn't exceeding Feed Height), it just wouldn't load. In that case Fusion is supposed to match the Feed Height with the vertical lead-in radius and ramping clearance height, but it just wouldn't. My suggestion is to make sure there isn't something like that going on, where Fusion makes a change on your behalf that's not really working.

Would you be able to share your Fusion file here?
File > Export > Save to local folder, return to thread and attach the .f3d/.f3z file in your reply.

There are some changes that could impact your toolpath calculation, but it would be good to see your file to determine if those are the source of the issue. Can you share a file that has a previously quick toolpath generation and then a much slower one when recalculated?

Seth,

thanks, file uploaded now. so this is a different one that I am coming across right now. the actual file that was taking minutes on end to generate was a large file so I figured maybe thats why... well this one I have uploaded is not very large at all. and if you see the "OP50" setup, there is basically just a couple drills and an engraving toolpath... it takes about 1 minute for me to generate those. which doesnt seem terrible but my software has never been this slow before...

Thanks,

Hi

The individual drilling toolpaths only take 1.3 seconds to generate for me on my PC(Similar specs to yours)

There is now collision checking on drilling so they do take a little longer than they used to to calculate but it shouldn't be significant on a small file like that.

Can you try turning on "Ignore Gouges" and see if that makes any difference

You can try doing a Clean install of Fusion  as it sounds like you are having a general performance issue rather that toolpath specific.

About a year ago I ended up having to to a fresh Windows install to get Fusion to perform better as the whole application had become laggy and slow and everything else I had tried had no effect.(It worked fine on my work PC though)

thanks for the reply. I will look into doing a clean install. whats weird is I dont see the "ignore gouges" in my fusion? I dont even have a "linking" section similar to you. I just timed how long a drilling operation generates and its 6 seconds, again, which doesnt seem like a big deal, but in a large program this definitely starts to add up and cause long times.

actually, I just found out its a preview features which I have turned off. I think the clean install may be what I am going to try. thanks again!

oops

I didn't realize this was still in Insider preview, anyway it doesn't sound like it was the cause of your issue.

I tried reinstalling.... I hope autodesk has some type of solution to this... I have another file, that is not so large, taking up to 30 mins to regenerate... never had any of these issues until after the latest update. getting very frustrating and literally pushing me behind on some of my work as I have machinists literally cleaning machine while waiting on programs from me...

Yesterday I was having a problem where a simple chamfer toolpath wouldn't load at all!!! I had to exit (during which Fusion froze, of course) and open on another computer (which said the other user was making edits even though it was CLOSED, so I had to re-open Fusion and open the file again, and close it again) then I could edit it on the different computer and upload changes to the original computer. This was a real moment for me--a simple edge break, a tiny little toolpath, taking 30 minutes to accomplish! An edge break! And I thought, what are my options? Do I bother posting on the forum where I'll be told it's not replicable? Death by 1000 cuts...

@jeff2HS8X the file you shared also does not take more than a few seconds to calculate, so I'm not sure where to go from here. Did you have anything else running at the same time, perhaps calculating another toolpath in another file

@perspicax if you can, could you share your file that was taking ages to compute?
