hi

Something that is very missing in Fusion360 is the possibility to import tool cad files or use sketch as tool that is available in many cam softwares.

anyway i am having trouble to set up a back turning tool like this in fusion 360

https://www.iscar.com/eCatalog/Item.aspx?cat=3601075&fnum=333&mapp=IS&app=34&GFSTYP=M&isoD=1

this is what i managed to do but it is not really the correct tool:

the thing is that the top of the tool will give me collision in stock even if there is enough space to use such a tool and also the LDRED is not set able in fusion 360.

any idea how i could create such a tool?

thanks 🙂

What you've discovered is pretty much the only way to do things currently. We're quite well aware of the need for importing 3D tooling and it's certainly something we want to attend to at some point.

The only other thing you can do in Fusion today is to create a tool without a holder, that might get you what you're looking for...

Thank you for your answer.

creating tool without holder means insert only?

can i create a sketch and use it as tool?

Yes to the first question, and no to the second.

hi again,

so i tried creating the tool without holder but how do i set the angle?

ilan1204_0-1748245331196.png

the problem is the if i use a holder i cannot set the head length to - value and if i keep it positive it adds some of the holder to the front of the insert and in the simulation i always get crash report:

i would use without holder cannot set the right angle

Just set the angle in the setup page to Insert angle/2+clearance angle + 90

so 35/2+5+90 = 112.5°

thanks a lot, i thought that it will effect the b-position (it a 5axis turning mill machine) but it doesnot effect the b only the tool orientation.

thank you 🙏🙏🙏

Hello

Now, of course, it is still far too complicated with this "Orientation in Turret".

As soon as a 3D-Machine Model and 3D-Tool Assemblies are supported in Turning, the "Orientation in Turret" is no longer required, as the Insert-Holder only has to be recorded once for all machines, everything else is then controlled by the composition of the Tool Assembly and the Joint between the Tool-Holder and the Tool-Spindle or the Turret-Station. I hope so.
