Reason Fusion 360 uses WCS 0,1,2,3,4 instead of G54, G55, G56, G57, G8, G59,G54P1?

Is there a logical reason Fusion 360 uses 0,1,2,3 as the WCS indicator. I have been programming machines since point to point (40 plus years) and I just don't understand why all the machines I work with say the exact same thing and Fusion 360 says something different in terms of identifying WCS.

The reason for this is rather simple; there are machines that use 1, 2, 3, 4 etc, and there are machines that use G54, 55, 56 etc. When the UI was developed, it was considered rather standard to adopt the 1, 2 ,3, 4 method. In fact, Renishaw still uses this in their macros, where 1=54, 2=55 and so on.

 

However, if one were to use a machine configuration for their preferred machine, in some cases (Haas for example) you're going to see the proper G54, 55, 56 callout

Seth,

Have been with fanuc, mitsubishi, doosan's version of fanuc, and haas for a 42 year career. Never have I seen a design, manufacture and post processing engine like Fusion 360. And yes, I use all of it, some expert mode, some novice mode, and some with too little knowledge but anxious to try anyway. With that being said, a simple script at the WCS assignment with a checkbox G54 or 1,2,3 seems like a practical solution. As old as I am, I still put in the number and then scroll down my program when I load it to confirm my finger counting was correct.

Yep, but I'm rather certain it's not going to change. It's a carryover from the HSMWorks interface (not saying that as an excuse, just stating it's origins). As Machine Configurations become more built-out, those are going to fill the role of WCS flexibility:
