Is programming for wirecut (Wire-EDM) machines possible from fusion 360?

Not natively, no. There are some users who have opted to use 2D Contour, define an endmill the same size as the wire, and hack a post processor to give them decent code. Note, that this does not allow for 4 axis motion, it will just be 2D. We get requests for wire EDM quite frequently, but as of yet, we haven't added native functionality into Fusion.

2D Profile has been used for years to create toolpath for 2D edm.  2D Profile (usually for Plasma, laser, waterjet) is similar to 2D Contour, but without settings used for milling tools.

I've heard that swarf operation might work for 4 axis edm, but that would requite quite a bit of hacking and I don't think has been done.

There should be proper workspace for "Wire-EDM programming".

But....there isn't, and I don't believe there are any current plans to add one.

Also, though I cant find it now but I did see it in the past. Autodesk did have a EDM specific software along the lines of Power Mill, something like Power EDM, etc. I know they have an electrode module for Power Mill but not sure about wire. I am not sure they would be selling to undercut one of their own products.

If wire EDM workspace is added Fusion 360 can be used as single product which can provide end to end solution for die mold industry.

@pramodQ4FRF Why do you say 'EDM workspace'?
IF we were to add support for EDM, it would start with a new operation in the manufacture workspace.

What is needed beyond a new operation?

I don't see a need for a whole workspace. Something similar to how waterjet/plasma is with a 2D and Swarf-like contour toolpaths. Params for Nozzle heights and wire diameter, a few manual nc's for tank and flushing codes and that pretty much covers it lol. I really wish there was a way to create custom toolpaths via the API but it does not appear to be possible unfortunately.

Any updates on Autodesk products that support wirecut EDM with 4th axis on Fanuc machines in 2023?

@eloymBGBQP Autodesk's FeatureCAM does wire erosion.

Here it is; a year after the last post, and still no support for Wire EDM in Fusion.  Yet, Autodesk stripped FeatureCAM down as spare parts, and FeatureCAM had unmatched wire EDM capabilities 20 years ago.  Now, of course, FeatureCAM is unusable, due to being cloud-based as well; that may be the saddest part.

We would really like this! How can we get this going again? We want multi axis functionality but if its only 2 axis to start. That would help a lot.

There is a WEDMPugin for Fusion: Pro solids Wire EDM which adds WEDM tabs in manufacture workspace.

I saw Prosolids but the price was a bit much at $2k per year. At that price why not go with esprit?
