Problems with cam for branding iron

My strategy was to start with a 6.4mm diameter end mill and use progressively smaller diameters to clear away stock and reveal the text.

1. I start with a 2D Adaptive Clearing. The tool paths created don't seem to go down to the base of the text, not sure why?

2. I then went to a 3D Adaptive Clearing and made sure checked Rest Machining and chose source from previous operation but the tool path goes over the stock that has already been cut and also does not go to areas of the text

where there is enough room.

Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Many thanks,

Gunter

Your problems are caused by axial stock left by the first adaptive cut. Set to zero fixes both of your problems.

1.) your text is only 2mm deep and you have .5 mm stock to leave left so it will only go down 1.5mm because your bottom height is the selected contour.

2.)You have model bottom set for height. You are now machining the .5mm not machined by the previous step. That is why operation is going over entire workpiece. You do not have enough room in your text. Some features are only roughly 2mm AND you have .5mm stock to leave (on both sides of feature) so you only have 1mm of machinable area with a 2mm bit so you cant machine with those settings.

Didn't look close enough at the second adaptive cut. Probably need to disable stock to leave and set tolerance to 0.01, take a look at the attached file for setting on the geometry tab.

@Anonymous  See attached file for example of embossing text using a taper cutter and engrave. Also take a look at the taper options for pocket and 2d contour. Done like this you can get sharp internal corners.
