Post processing within Fusion 360

Good afternoon community!

The post-processing option has now been merged into the NC program experience.

The experience and functionality you get for post-processing used to depend on both what operating system you were using and what button you used to start post-processing. Over the past few months, we have been working on unifying these experiences by expanding NC programs to ensure it has all the functionality needed to replace the multiple post-processing dialogs that exist today.

One of the important changes to be aware of is the usage of the post library for post-processor management and selection. This gives you more ways to manage your post-processors and will give a better way of consuming post-processor updates from our Fusion 360 post library.

If you would like to continue to use your local drive to store post processors, simply 'link' your local drive to the post library by right-clicking on the 'linked' option and choosing 'link folder'

Like always with post-processing, check your selected post properties and output code carefully before running code on your machine tool

One more user who needs human readable file names, and has an old Mitsubishi NC that only accepts Fanuc style Oxxxx operation numbers.

As for re-writing the post processor to hardcode O0001 for each program... that wouldn't work for me because my NC runs completely text free, code only, with all comments stripped out - so I do actually use unique program identifiers to confirm that the code that is loaded matches the annotated program that the operator can view on the DNC software.

So I need the facility to set unique numerical identifiers, and also Human readable file names... just like the old one did.

I'll stick with legacy until you fix it.

I thought I was the only one!! I work in a Job Shop where the work is never the same. I am constantly Changing things to best optimize my programs. every modification creates a new NC program. wish there was a way to toggle that feature off.

It's not just you, there others who keep posting the setup instead of posting the already created (updated) NC Program(s).

Stop doing that. 🙂

@Schillertb

Instead of just clicking Post Process every time have you tried selecting the existing NC Program and then Edit and Posting from there? You won`t get a new NC Program every time that way, couple of extra clicks, isn`t too hard !!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Right click on the setup, tool paths, or the toolpath - post prosses- name the file then hit post done.

Kind of off topic but as I can't seem create a post on the forums I'll ask it here.

I was wondering if the fusion 360 team could add the Fanuc Robodrill long bed machine model to stock vendor machines for machine simulation?

Hi,

The tab 'nc programs' expands every time I post a program, for me that's not necessary and it annoys me that my tree get's very long that way. I love to see an option to keep it permanently closed just like the 'model' tab.

You are using it the wrong way. Select the operations/setups you want to post. Right click then click "Create NC Program". An NC Program gets created for you. That's what you post from now on, that NC Program. Every time you want to update the output .NC file, you run Post Process on the NC Program, not on operations/setup. This way no unneeded new NC Program is ever created. But in order to do that, the NC Programs needs to stay expanded.

@Anonymous

You only need a single NC Program, it should have all your Setups and Operations in it then all you need to do is click on the NC Program, right click and choose Edit, the NC Program will open and you can then select/deselect any Setup/Operations that you want to post.

That is all you need, no need to be selecting operations at the Browser Tree, if you do that then you will need to recreate the NC Program with selected Setups/Operations and if you want to re-post anything you will have to re-create it all over again 😞

Anyway, if you don`t like the way the NC Program works you can always go back to the "Legacy" Post Processing method by going to your "Preferences" and under the "Preview" tab enable the older method as shown below 🙂

Hope that has been of some help 🙂

Thanks for your reply!

Oh alright it works like that, never used it that way 😉. I use right click on the setup and post again! I will look in to it tomorrow, see if I like it. It does look like I need to do more mouseclicks (I don't like unnecessary mouseclicks 😜) but I will find that out tomorrow.

file name window not allowing letters.

@EdDRM please confine your issue to one thread, rather than spread across several older threads that are not quite related to the issue you are encountering

Really!!!
A customer is having an issue with your product and instead of trying to
help with the issue this what you do...sit back and police the forums and
let other customers try to help out!

is there a way to continue to use the Legacy NC program for the post processing. I find the new system absolutely horrible to use.

As far as I have seen the legacy continues to be available as a "preview" feature. If you go into preferences you can turn it on
