Pocket is facing, not pocket-ing

OK, lost, guessing is some little check mark I'm not clicking but can't for the life of me figure out what..

Select a pocket to cut, but instead of cutting out it basically faces the whole project...

Guess we can't save/export a fusion file and share here anymore???? 🙄 totally frustrated as it makes zero sense to me why it doesn't work...?

guess I can link? - https://a360.co/4gh4ptg

(PS, making me link my file isn't better than saving a fusion file to upload and share!!! )

OK, got that fixed it seems, not really sure how.. but now ...

If I just pocket it, it works fine, but, if I add just a single finishing pass at the end I get a collision  warning and 2 places it won't cut..? don't get it?  why? noting has changed in what it's cutting so there is nothing for it to collide with..? (same file as above? no clue if that's how to share now... )

I can't access the file from the A360 link you shared. You either are using a Personal License (which doesn't permit sharing via the A360 link) or you don't have "Allow File to be downloaded" enabled.

If you can't share the file directly, could you put it into a .ZIP folder and attach that here instead?

We aren't intentionally preventing the direct sharing of files, there appears to be a bug in the forums that's preventing it. If I could get my hands on your file, that would allow me to both help you as well as send it along to our Forums team to figure out what's going wrong with the platform

no the forum.. there is no more saving/exporting of file from fusion with the personal version... share link only... there used to be an "export file" here, not anymore... Unless they moved it, which I just looked around and can't find anywhere it allows it.. 🤔

It's always been there, not on the Data Panel > Right Click menu. You might be thinking about the Export option that you will find when you Right Click in the Browser (when you have Components)?

if I go back to the design work space I get this... can save as mesh, but can't export "fusion" file...

You missed the part where I mention "Component". Your file only has "Bodies", so all you will see is Save as Mesh. If you convert the Body into a Component, you'll get the "Export" option. Mind you, that will only export the Design, it won't export the Manufacture side of things. In all cases, you should be using the Export option from the File menu

To answer your actual question; Fusion is not liking how close some of the features are and it's in conflict with where it wants to put the finish pass entry/exit. We only permit a bit of control on entry/exit for 2D Pocket, so in the areas that it's failing, I suggest programming a second toolpath (2D Contour) that finishes those correctly.

OK,.. got a clue why if I add a single finishing pass I get collisions but if no finishing pass it cuts fine?

but why is it fine without a finish pass ... ?  kinda makes no sense.. the finis pass is just following the same path..?  so if one hits the other should... that's kinda goofy?

When you add a Finishing Pass option to 2D Pocket, it has to recalculate where it enters and exits the cut for the finishing pass. In this case, it detects a collision will occur (given the geometry) and fails to produce a valid outcome. Using 2D Contour (after a 2D Pocket with no finish pass), there is more control over where the start/stop occur, so you can get a valid solution via the 2 toolpaths route.

yeah that explains what's happening,.. but not why it's happening... still makes no sense to me that it does thistle finishing path should follow the main cutting path, just that fraction closer,.. just makes no sense it can't calculate it for a simple cleaning pass but if I do a regular cut at the exact same location, it doesn't have an issue with it... but what ever..

Thanks a BUNCH for your help by the way!!  I don't come here often, but when I do I'm really thankful for you guys!!!

Hi @t_lamourine,

Thanks for feedback. @seth.madore has provided a good way to solve the problem. I've also created ticket CAM-59372 to improve linking and avoid failures as in your example. The problem is related to Leads on all finishing passes option. You can disable it (if it's acceptable) and get all paths linked.

cool, thanks .. issue without leads is that it sorta plunges, and the smaller 1/8"-1/4" bits will flex and you end up with a little 1/2 circle over cut pocket on the edge.... if that makes sense?

but thanks.. hope they can find a good solve for it. 🙂 Does work what he stated rather well but the way!
