Perfect part: where are u? how to use adaptive and finish part

I make parts with 3d contours, see attached. i use pocket to clear, for some reason I cant get adaptive to work, and then use 3d contour on steeper walls and parallel on flatter contours.

settings for pocket are .125 over and .125 down with .5 flat mill. settings for 3d contour are .1 over .1 down. with .5 ball nose.  I work in wood.

1. how to get adaptive to cut this part?

2 on posting pocket the Z only goes to -1.1. this part is 1.5 inch thick

3. How to get a smoother part.?

thanks, JR

Did you mean to say "Pocket" or "Adaptive"? You have a 3D Pocket toolpath in your file, so just curious which one you meant.

In regards to all the toolpaths in question (Pocket, Adaptive or 3D Contour), the issue is that you have your tool containment set to "Center" or "Inside" boundary. Setting it to "Silhouette" and "Outside" will get you this:

The file is attached for your reference

Take a look at the settings that I've chosen and see if you can replicate the steps needed 🙂

There was a 3D Adaptive toolpath in the file that I sent:

Oh, that's just my default for mild steel. Didn't bother to change settings too much, more interested in a toolpath to start with
