Odd selection artifact. Seen often.
A rather unhelpful bug that crept in earlier this year. I've got a part I helped someone on the forum with that worked perfectly in January now it will not generate at all. There have been quite a few post on it but they never seem to get much interest from support.
Here's a pic showing it used to work.
Here's what the selection looks like now, should be just the surfaces at the bottom of each letter!
Generate gets stuck a 9% and never finishes.
For closed pockets you can work around it by selecting edges or by using a sketch but this doesn't work very well with open pockets.

Here's another thread with the same problem, the only easy workaround was to use a 3d op instead.
From that file, you can see the face selecting is all over the place, some open some closed some selecting the wrong side.
