OD groove issue

I am cutting a .100 wide od groove with a .062 grooving insert. I would like it to plunge in and rough out material, then retract straight out to position over and repeat. The tool wants to plunge in then move over slightly before  retracting. How can this be fixed? Thanks!

try turning the lead in and lead out off.

also their is a lead direction choice which can be set parallel to the tool.

Thanks but that file simulation does the exact same thing. Goes down to the finish diameter the walks over before retracting. Our groove tools don't do well in certain material if they get loaded up on the side like that.

Are you not seeing the same toolpath as me?? Look at this video, I tried the second file you sent and it clearly goes to the bottom in the material and moves over on my software?

right you are....i will look again.

 

i was only looking where it might hit the wall.

 

i think if you switch to two single groove cuts it might do it 🙂

 

i will try in a bit !!

Thank you, yes the two single grooves could work. By the time I set them both up with approach and retraction policy it is a bit of a hassle, then I will need another path to come clean it all up and chamfer it pretty for the customer. If this is the way it it then so be it. I am very new to cam software so just learning. I am only using the free version right now, perhaps I  will keep looking at other software.

Hi @Anonymous , I attached a file that may work for you. I reduced the roughing step over.

I think @Anonymous has the answer. The issue is being cause by math. Groove width minus tool width is .038". Default stepover is .04". Reducing the value to below .038" creates a toolpath that doesn't cut axially
