Nesting Layouts are Chaos

I'm missing something with the new Nesting feature in Fusion.

Following this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH3RhTTp30k&t=642s

I've followed the steps:

1. Make all bodies I want nested into components.

jayarvinsettle_2-1607482812761.png

2. Go to Manufacturing tab>Components Sources. (All of my components there have "Warning MULTIPLE PARTS FOUND".)

3. Go to Process Material Library and add packaging

jayarvinsettle_0-1607482760644.png

4. Go to Nest study and select my components under shapes, leaving all settings default.

And it displays some very confusing layouts. What am I missing here?

Thanks for letting us know about this, it is indeed a quantity recognition issue,we've created internal ticket TRUNFSN-2251 to investigate this issue, and apologies for the inconvenience.

The attachment PS4.f3d is similar to the attachment PS5.f3d in your other post, so they could be caused by the same problem.

My production release just updated to version 2.0.9440 and I've uploaded this PS4 model into there and it seems OK.

Let us know if the new release works better.

@jayarvinsettle just checking, I'm importing these controllers and they are about 762mm wide, is that correct?

Yes 762mm is 30 inches that is correct.

So a new version is out already? Just yesterday morning Nesting was introduced.

I get the same results.

Things I've tried:

1. Projected the body of the PS4 and extruded that to make a new body.

2. Turned that body into a component.

3. Copied that component and pasted it into a new clean project.(attached)

4. Then copied that component 7 times so I could have several components to lay on a sheet.

8. Go to Manufacture>Fabrication>Manage>Component Sources

jayarvinsettle_2-1607630827975.png

All components says "MULTIPLE PARTS FOUND"

9. Go to Process Material Library

jayarvinsettle_3-1607630889835.png

10. Click Nest and don't change anything

@MattWynn Would you provide a quick screen recording of this. I'm curious how you were successful and if I'm missing a step that might make the difference.

similar bizarre behaviour also.

..creating multiples of a single component

and

...layering components on top of eachother outside of the material dimensions.

@HarrisonClassic this is caused by problems with closed profiles, usually from solids imported from other CAD systems.  Can you tell me where your models were designed?  It would also be a big help if you can share your model, we can see if there is a quick workaround.

Hi Matt,
I don't have the model anymore, but as you suspect it was based on bodies extruded from imported DXF from AutoCAD 2020 ( using AutoCAD 2018 DXF "SaveAs" )
Product Version !. 111.0.0 AutoCAD 2020.1.3

@HarrisonClassic if you are importing DXF files into Fusion for nesting you should be using the free DXF Importer app we created just for this purpose, download from the Fusion app store is https://apps.autodesk.com/FUSION/en/Detail/Index?id=3146198746757677787

It will import multiple dxf files into separate components, extrude to a thickness, set material, perfect for nesting and arrange.  Also supports importing DXF text for etching.  Also supports healing gaps in the DXF data, which may be the solution to your problem.

If you got a pkg file that is for mac.  Select windows to download an msi file which should install when you open it.

@jayarvinsettle
The confusion with these parts should be resolved in the release that just dropped, see the nesting section in  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-support/april-2021-product-update-notices-known-issues-and...

The recent May 2021 update has more improvements in this area.
