Need to fix collision issue in toolpath

Hi There,

 

I'm working on creating the toolpaths I need for making a guitar body and have run into an issue. The toolpath I created for finishing the body cavity sides after I cleared the cavity of material keeps giving me collisions and I'm not sure how to correct it. I've tried looking at different holders but don't seem to be able to find one that will work. Would it be a matter of finding an end mill that is long enough to reach the bottom of the cavity without the holder hitting the body or is there something else that I can do to fix this? I've attached my file for reference.

The tool you have selected to finish the walls is a .062" diameter endmill. The depth of the pocket is 1.3745". The length of flute on your .062" tool is .1875". It doesn't matter what type of holder you are using, it's simply that it's not the right tool for the job....

 

At that depth, assuming wood, I'd be looking for something in the .375 to .50 diameter range. Also, since you are able to use multiple depths of cuts, you don't NEED to have 1.375 length of flute, but the tool would need to be relieved so it doesn't rub against the wood: http://www.helicaltool.com/prod/2-Flute-End-Mills/End-Mills/High-Performance-End-Mills_252/End-Mill-...

Hey Seth, thanks for your reply. I was wondering why I didn't get any collision issues when | did the adaptive clearing in the previous step and it's because I used a 3/4" end mill to do the rough cutting. I was trying to use the right size end mill to do the finish because of the 0.60" radius's that are in the body but I guess I'll have to use a bigger size as you've suggested or an end mill with a relief in the shank so it doesn't touch the sides.

The corner rads are .300 radii, so you could concieveably go up to a 15mm endmill (.5904" diameter)

Your choice of the .062" endmill was one decimal place off.... Smiley Wink

Thanks Seth, time to get the eyes checked (again). Would you mind taking a look at the attached screenshot and telling me what this means? I've been trying to figure it out for a while now but not getting anywhere.

It's only a "warning" and not something to be overly concerned about. That being said, it's coming (likely) from the ramp height setting on the last tab. It won't violate the heights you've chosen on the Heights tab, so it just let's you know that it's raised it to the maximum

Hey Seth, I approached the problem differently and found another solution. I was trying to rout the body cavity and tenon cavity separately. Instead, I decided to link the two operations together using the same 3/4" end mill and I had no issues or warnings come up. Just thought I'd let you know.
