Need help/explanation of "Groove Suppression" in profile turning?

How does the groove suppression work?

Trying to prevent the profiling tool from entering o-ring grooves

On the OD roughing and finish profile there is only an option to "Suppress Grooving"

On the ID roughing and finish profile there is an option in the linking to not allow grooving?

@lethal375

See image below for what we have here, it is under the "Cycle and Direction" Tab.

Yes I have that option on the ID profiling but not on the OD?

On the OD I have to scroll down to the bottom of the geometry tab where it says Groove Suppression

Ah, my apologies, I didn`t read your question properly, to answer, the "Groove Supression" seems to work fine here, I will do a short screencast to show what I have and if I have understood correctly.

I don`t know why you don`t have the same "drop down options" as we have here, that will have to be answered by an Autodesk Employee 🙂 My Build number here is 2.0.14337

Screencast link Here:-

When I try to Share it will not let me select "Link"

I can only select "Launch Screencast Recorder"

@lethal375

Check your email for a link that you copy and paste into your reply, there are only certain of the higher echelon that are allowed to "embed" a Screencast into a post 🙂

I have done a small Screencast that may be of some help to you, used your uploaded file and just did a Face, a Roughing Profile and a Finish Profile just to show what/how things were selected, hope it is of some use to you 🙂

Screencast link here :-   https://autode.sk/3Ra6ie0

Ooops, apologies, forgot to attach the modified file 🙂

@lethal375 if your "groove suppression" parameter in the geometry tab is checked it overrides the grooving parameter in the passes tab.

@lethal375

You need to have the "Groove Supression" turned off as in the Screencast and the file I did in order to use the Groove Options in the "Cycle and Direction" area 🙂

Edit:  Ah, too slow here with the post, I see that @akash.kamoolkar has already pointed that out to you 🙂 🙂

Ok

Thanks, As usual there was a simple answer

So how does the Groove Suppression face selection work?

@lethal375 the groove suppression feature was introduced to allow suppressing grooves more flexibly on a more selective basis whereas the "grooving" parameter suppresses all grooves or none. So if you need to suppress individual / multiple grooves you can suppress them by selecting all the faces that bound those grooves and the toolpath will not enter them. you can play around with it and attach your f3d file here if you have any issues.
