NC-Program and Post Processor Confusion

Would it not be easier to have a post processor file which when edited either from the NC-Program page or from the source file location that the change's are universal not like it is at the moment where if you change using NC-Program page this doesn't change the source file And if you change the source file it doesn't update the NC-Program post, I'm doing a lot of testing right now and this issue is really really annoying or have I missed something ? I prefer to edit source file  but this means deleting NC Prog one then reloading every time !

Hi @ubi.james13, I'm not sure I understand what your looking for? But let me say this and maybe it will answer some of your question. One of my machines I have made hundreds of NC files but never edited the post, on my other machine I recently edited the post for machine simulation and when I did this I made a new post as to not save over the previous version so a new uploaded post was required. I did this in visual studio and now that I have done this I will no longer edit that post.

As for NC files those are created using Fusion and the post processor, then run on the machine. They are only the code required by the machine. I don't edit NC files, I know some do but I don't need to do anything there and with the commercial version of Fusion360 there should be no reason to edit.

Maybe I totally missed what you are referring to, but I'm left questioning why are you doing so much post and NC editing that you would like that push of changes back and forth? I really don't like the idea as it would probably lead to changes that would break the post processor.

@Joshua.Aigen Hi, yeah its not the NC files I need to edit but the post processor  for my machine I do this with Visual Studio Code but sometimes I also use another editor which make comparing file a lot easier than V S Code hence I prefer to edit the local PP file (the file you link in NC Programs) In the old post dialogue page the post processor selected, if local could be edited either from post dialogue page or directly from the source file location however with the new NC-program the post processor is just a snap shot copy of the file you point it at in the selection page, if you edit it on that page it doesn't change the original or if you change the original it doesn't change the one selected on NC programs basically NC-Programs is making another copy, the last thing I need is different  copy's

Perhaps you can tell me where the one in NC-Program is store then I could edit just that one  ?

Should add the post processor I'm working on is very under developed so needs a lot of work and testing before I can trust it to operate a very very expensive machine !

Sorry for the delay but after trying out the workflow I wasn't able to recreate the situation that you are describing. When I edit the local PP either in Visual Studio or from the edit button in NC programs it is always pointed towards the same file. I made a screencast of how it is working on my end please take a look. Or use this Link  https://autode.sk/3vE0ou9

Ah ha, haven't ever notice the file address @ the top before !  And as I thought it is taking a snap shot of the PP I point too and making a copy in another location, therefore confusing !

i.e.

Original Post  address example  C:\post Testing\

and then making copy to:-

C:\Users\*****\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Fusion360Cam\ Posts \

Least I know now
