Issue with new "Avoid/Touch Surface" selection feature?

The new feature in the avoid/touch surface section of the toolpath geometry section doesn't appear to be working correctly.  I think I understand that soon we will be able to avoid AND touch surfaces, which is awesome!!  I currently wish to avoid a single surface (both in pencil and parallel paths), however, it is not allowing me to remove the standard 'model' selection and continues to generate paths for the entire model.  Please help.

Thanks,  B

I was able to find a workaround; by selecting 'avoid surface' for the entire 'Model' it will basically disregard the entire model.  You can then add an additional surface to machine/avoid.

That's not a workaround, that's the intended workflow. We now want to use Face Groups to control where the toolpath does and does not calculate. Using the "plus" sign and designating surfaces as Machine/Avoid/Gouge will determine the end result.

@seth.madore I have an issue with this 'new approach'. I'm using a contour opp to automate finding 3 hole pockets for so called cabineo's. It has been working fine for the passed couple of years, but due to this update i am forced to select 60 faces again instead of simple adding a face i want to avoid.  The opp is using height for automatically finding these cabineo's in the set of selected panels. (since it's an open pocket, it's not detected automatically with the auto pocket feature). In some cases the panels in the cabinets also contains holes or slots that need to be avoided. In the previous situation, i could easily select all the panels in the setup that contained these cabineo's and it would automatically find them, if an extra hole required avoidance, i could add it to the 'avoid surfaces' nothing more nothing less, it worked as intended, predictable and stable.. This is no longer possible, since the annoying persistent GROUP being selected that represents the selected number of panels in the setup.

Hang on. I think i just figured it out. If i add a radial offset to surfaces to be avoided it works like i'm used to! Happy!

Seth, I'm sure this change made sense to someone but you guys took something that was simple to understand and implement and made it confusing.  I still can't figure out how to prevent tool path generation from making holes in the neck of a guitar I am making when cutting  it as a 3D object.  The neck as around 40 irregular surfaces so it takes for ever to select them individually.  Sorry, but in my opinion this change gets an "F".  Please bring back the old way-at least as an option.
