How to handle this stock and shoulder collision?

Hi folks, I am attempting to make a 0.25" wide 45 degree chamfer using the 2d contour toolpath with chamfering turned on. The issue I am running into is that the toolpath moves into an area of stock that hasn't been machined, and the shoulder of the tool gets hit. What is the best approach to solving this?

Turn off your lead in/lead out and the collision goes away.

Alternatively create an operation to remove stock in those areas first, could be as simple as drilling.

you can also set your lead in position to be in that dogbone pocket.

Why is your chamfer mill going through that solid (green) material anyway?

I have a clearing operation before it with a flat end mill. The chamfer mill then passes over that area to clear out the little steps the flat end mill left behind.

I did do that, and the collision still remains. Thanks, I will remove material to solve the problem.

Your end extension is longer than it needs to be.

Removing the material its hitting will obviously work just fine but you can also just turn off leads and change your end extension to .01. Chamfer tools don't need to go the full .5(tool diameter) over to get full cleanup like an endmill. None of your tool is touching material as soon as you cross centerline of the end of your contour

hello,
You can also use this method. I showed how to do it in the video.
