Hole Recognition

Hole Recognition will not use the tools stored in my hole template. I am only wanting to use my personal tool library when trying to finish holes but, it seems as if it still wants to use tools from all the tool library's.  Any ideas how to fix it?

Hi @cl_lathe

If you navigate to the Tool Libraries tab within the Hole Recognition strategy, you can set which library or libraries you want Fusion to use when recognizing hole features from you model.

Just make sure to click on the option "Make Default" before you hit OK.

Has anyone been able to make the hole recognition work?

It does a good job recognizing holes....machining them= not so much.

  1. It wont select tools from my library but rather the stock sample cutters.  I have selected the option to only use my tools.  Still doesnt behave.  It just grabs tools from the sample library and creates a new tool in the document and assigns it a random number...even overwriting tools that are already there.
  2. If I select SIMPLE DRILL it still goes and finds a random spot drill (metric) from the sample tool library and spot drills the holes even if SIMPLE DRILL is selected.  I reset the default to only use my tool library.  Doesnt work

Ive been screwing with this for an hour or so....I give up

Sorry for your struggles.   Hole Recognition can also pull tools from the "document library".  That is, go to the Manage -> Tool library   and notice in the left pane, the first "Library" under All is called Documents.  Click on Hole_recognition_template.f3d  (or whatever your active document is called), and see all the tools in use.  (or rather, "in the document"; they don't have to be in-use even).  You can delete tools from here - in fact, if you *only* want to pull tools from your tool-library, you can delete them all.   We currently don't have the option to "use the exact tool in the template" since the template might "fit" a different sized hole (and the tools in the template might not be appropriate).

This seems to still be an issue. Has anyone else had luck making a library with just the tools and numbers you want to run on a family of parts and the software

will only look at that library and use those tools? It auto populates tool number and will not grab the tools from the library you are pointing it to.

From my experience, I can say that hole recognition is a nice theory so far.

- Tools are rarely selected correctly, no matter how perfect the tool library is.

- Basically, only rudimentary drillings can really be made.

- Bore milling, for example, is not possible at all.

- Jumping into holes with a countersinking tool does not work either.

- Only simple spot drilling with a spot drill and then drilling works reasonably well, completely out of the question.

For more complex holes, starting with tapped holes, it is better to save operations as a template and then load them.

If you have difficult materials and have to drill even slightly differently than specified, the result is absolute chaos.

I have also adjusted the core holes in the thread data, but none of this helps

I have tried again and again to get it to work over years, no chance!

It's completely useless for real work! (in my opinion)

But I still hope that it will get better at some point ... hope dies last! 😉
