Heidenhain TNC 370 post processor problems

Hi there, this is my first post so please bear with me! I've designed a billet oil cap for my mx5 (See attached file). It isnt finished yet I've only done the milling part. I've done all the CAM programs etc and they run fine with no warnings in fusion 360, but trying to post process it to use on my mill at work which has a TNC 370 controller and it doesn't want to know! Attached is a text document of the error I get after post processing. Could it be that the milling cycles I'm using simply wont work with an old controller or is there something else I'm missing? Any help is greatly appreciated! Sean

Hi, tried your file and yes, it didn`t post properly, had a quick look and it seems you had your WCS the wrong way up, Z axis pointing down instead of up, I swapped it over and your file Posts out OK on all the Heidenhain Post Processors I have in the Posts Library so it might just be that was all that was wrong Smiley Happy

Anyway, try the attached file and see if that works for you.

That's brilliant! Just tried it this morning and yes it posts perfectly! I'm still new to using the cam feature in f360. The package we've got at work is something like mastercam v9.1 from back in the day... So just to clarify, the blue arrow that indicates the Z should be pointing upwards when setting the WCS?

@seanmbwGlad it works for you, yes, the Z axis Blue arrow should point upwards towards where the spindle will approach the part from, on a standard VMC (Vertical Machine Center) that would be from above as I set it.

Just need to get it to work at the machine now Smiley Happy Smiley Happy

Yes that makes sense now! And cheers! It's a little side line I'm thinking of doing. And I did manage to get one program working once but it was by pure guessing with the cam until I got it to post but forgot what I had changed... The TNC 407 is the closest post processor for my machine with a few changes to the program. Once again, thanks for the help! Really appreciate it!

Good Morning

 

I have my own post processor that i have created from a couple others for the vmc370

mine has the tool def: and m6 tool change. rather than the tool table plus the FMAX.

 

I have attached the file. 

 

I hold no responsibility if it doesnt work right for your machine etc. please be careful as always, but it works perfectly on my vmc460 and vmc1000 bridgeports

Wow ok! I'll give that a try and see how it goes! I mean the current post processor I was using out of f360 wasn't bad and worked perfectly, but you just had to go through it and change all the M3 to M6 so it would tool change, and change the tool table to TOOL DEF (X) L+0,000 R+0. But of course if you're doing a long program (Within 120kb) with lots of tool changes it can get a bit tedious going through and changing them all. But with the search option on Cimco it makes it easier... but to get a post straight out with no messing around will be great! So thank you again and I'll keep you posted on how it goes!

Yeah I soon got fed up of going through long programs hoping id not missed anything. I thought i had it sorted and missed the fact it didnt have the m06. got a little complacent and bent a drill.. ooops. lesson learnt the hard way and all that.... but this version should be fine. All you would need to do is ref. your tool Z. let me know how you get on with it please 🙂

So I've just posted a quick program, There's still a few things in it that I have to remove, like the BLK FORM at the beginning of the program, and theres an M9 at the end of each tools operation which doesn't work with our mill, and also and M1 between the M5 and TOOL CALL which I also have to remove. And at the end our our programs we use
L M25
L X+0 Y+80 FMAX
L M30
I had a look and play around editing the post processor but I broke it...

Aup mate. i leave them all in as its never an issue i dont even know what m1 is for 😄 . your machine should still read them ok. inc the blank form etc. Are you drip feeding or loading programs on? i think you can set it in your post to home x and y. i may be wrong as im very very new to it too.

Thanks for posting your post processor for the TNC 370!!

 

I just acquired a VMC 760/22 Bridgeport. Just wondering how you feed it your toolpaths?

 

I'm keen on drip feeding mine and so far have had zero luck with the Heidenhain DNC or EasyDNC. Im running a usb to serial adapter then through a 9 pin to 25 pin cable I made. All I get are error messages at either the PC or machine. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! There seems to be very little info on the internet about trouble shooting!

Can someone share the tool.t file from your controls and the parameters. I got an Bridgeport with tnc 370 but there no tool table to store the tools offsets. [email protected]
