Fusion 360 CAM --- Drilling has problem with geometry after latest update today.

Hello people...

Just did the Fusion 360 update today and i think there is a problem with drilling...

Here is the error :

Warning: Cylindrical face is opposite to tool's orientation!

Warning: No holes to drill.

RED Flag .... cannot select cylindrical face to drill .... gives above error .... Work around is to select the center point of the hole to drill and then select appropriate planes to set start and depths from

Please look into this .... it just started after the latest upgrade.

Thanks Brian.

Would you be able to share your file? Perhaps there is something turned on in some other dialog that might be causing this

Works OK for me. Is it an imported part and is it stitched into a single solid body. Only other thought, is the hole parallel with the Z axis you could get an error if it off by a small amount.

I'm having the same issue, but only with my tapping cycle. The tapping cycle worked fine before the update, but now the toolpath won't generate.

I've attached the f3d file.

Cheers,

Adam

I experimented a bit by making a new hole and that worked then I added a chamfer and it failed so I selected the chamfer on the original hole and deleted it and now it works!

Selecting Auto-Merge hole segments gets it working with the chamfer still there.

Thanks Mark, I tried it on the model I have and it still has the same error if I turn the "Auto-Merge Hole Segments" option on. I removed the top .030" chamfer surface and it works fine. I added the .030" top chamfer back onto the hole and it fails again with the same error. Defineitly a problem if the hole has a chamfer at the top ..... NO Chamfer .... works fine..... WITH Chamfer no good..... I have confirmed that with my model.

How are you setting your depth? I had a chamfer-related error a week ago or so in drilling ops and I wonder if it's related.

Generally I use the "Hole Top" or "Model Top" to set the upper start drilling from plane and use the "Hole Bottom" or Model Bottom" functions to set the drill depth.... I am really thinking that if the hole has a chamfer on it you can expect to see the error.... Without chamfer seems to work fine.... Is anybody else seeing the same thing? This model was working good before the latest update happened. All my models are typically ParaSolid imports with some mods done in Fusion as required..... Never have I seen this problem until today... Your Thoughts ?

Ran into the same thing. Was working on a model. By the time I got back to it to update the cam side the update happened.

When I went to regenerate nothing happened so I assumed I needed to reselect everything. Lines, etc work. Holes do not.

I now cannot select holes to drill. Actually these were previously selected but no longer are recognized.

Yup, they all have chamfers. The "select all holes of the same size" also no longer functions.

I just mocked something up to test and it seems to work, can you share something we can look at? Is it an imported part, although if it worked before you'd expect it to still work.

I just tried a couple of things.

Note that my issues are with holes that were previously just fine until the update.

Deleted all drilling operations and tried again. No go. The holes do not exist as far as CAM is concerned.

Added 1 new hole I did not need. Tool path was successfully generated for that 1 hole.

Deselected that hole.

Added 2 more holes.

Manually selected all the holes. Tool path was generated successfully.

Deselected all 3.

clicked "select same diameter" which worked in the past.

Selected the first one.

NO go. The first as well as the other new holes were not found and  No tool path was generated.

So it must have something to do with that SSD.

I am beginning to dread updates. It is as if the last thing worked on before the update gets Fubared.

Does the cloud attempt to update the files before loading the update? Is that where it all goes south?

This is a file from February and I've tested a couple more and they all work so I don't know what you're doing differently.

I think you need to send the file to support or upload something here or you're not going to get anywhere finding out what's going on.

See, that's the thing. I'm not doing anything differently. All my older stuff works also.

It is just the last file worked on before and after the update. It also used to work fine and parts were carved out with it before the update.

Just like last month's update where I lost the whole file to the rain cloud something goes sideways this time also. Odd say I.

If no enlightenment or patches comes from on high in the coming days I will send it in for dissection.

Wonder what would happen if I uninstall and get a fresh copy instead of piled on updates? That helps with conventional programs sometimes.

What happens to my files?. Will they dissolve in the cloud?

Slept on it and came back for another attack and found the culprit.

I did a combine/join when adding a new feature.  This occurred before and after the update. Hence my suspicions.

Somehow when I attached to the original body it grabbed and included all the holes previously created in that body.

Hence they no longer existed as a separate entities.

This also affected holes created in the new joined piece that were created after the joining.

Why it did not affect other features (radius, chamfers, edges) I don't know.

All I have to do now it figure how how to join to the original main body without grabbing everything previously created

Morning all, I was the one who reported this problem at that time approx. 2-3 months ago .... It happened after the update was installed and I believe there was some sort of conversion of the files happening at that time.... After a little testing I was able to get the faces of the holes to be recognized if I deleted the chamfers at the top and bottom of the holes.... It would then work as before.... If I added the chamfers back to the holes using F360 modeling tools then it would fail in the CAM again.... I will keep trying with some new models which I typically import using ParaSolid format from another CAD system and if I get another problem selecting faces I will share that for you to use as a test.... This is important to me as I do use this hole drilling tool quite extensively in my CNC programming work. Thanks for keeping up on this as well. Regards, Brian.

It is somewhat comforting that I am not alone in this issue.

In my case I am dealing with countersunk holes.

I will likely just have to delete and start over. Guess I better see if the drawing portion still recognizes their position.
